The Arctic desert or region constitutes a partly ice-covered Arctic ocean. The Arctic desert serves ad home to millions of people. It covers the Island groups of Norway and Russia.  The Arctic region also plays a huge role in the Earth’s climate system. There are about 8 European countries in the Arctic desert. The following is a list of 5 of the largest European countries in the Arctic desert.

1. One of the countries in the Arctic desert is Canada. The Canadian Arctic lies north of the tree line or boreal forest. Animals found there are mammals and migratory birds. Oceans or seas found in the Canadian Arctic desert include Baffling Bay, Hudson Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean. The soil types available there are also colluvial, morainal, and permafrost.

2. Another European country in the Arctic desert is Greenland. The size of the region is about 375km east-west and 200km North-South. The area is full of mountains and is also considered the ice-free region of the countries in the Arctic desert

3. Iceland is also one of the European countries in the Arctic desert. The Iceland Arctic desert is an area of fire and ice. What form its landscape are Glaciers, leva fields waterfalls, and hot springs.

4. Another European Arctic desert country is Norway. Almost half of Norway’s landmass is Arctic territory. These territories are: Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, Svalbard and Jan Mayen. The Norway Arctic maritime area is approximately 1,500 000 Square kilometers. The economy of Norway’s Arctic desert includes fishing and marine resources as well as livestock husbandry.

5. The last but not least of the European countries in the Arctic desert is Russia. The most prevailing threat to the Russian Arctic biodiversity is climate change. Other threats are illegal hunting and fishing. The main countries where the Arctic desert can be located is Russia and Norway.

All these countries, together collaborate,  coordinate, and interact with each other via an intergovernmental forum called the Arctic Council. The Artic also constitutes more than just a snow terrain and covers about 5.4 million square miles. One of the major threats faced by the countries in the Arctic desert is oil and gas development,  fisheries management, and mining traffic.
