KNOW WHY YOU SHOULD NOT MARRY PEOPLE WITH CERTAIN BLOOD GROUPS
Before you say I DO to your partner, there are some considerations besides loving each other that should be consented to. Knowing your blood group compatibility is very crucial if you intend to have your own children.
Nonetheless, knowing whether or not compatible with your partner is not the determinant of the success of your marriage.
Although that is not what guarantees a happy marriage, bring in the known helps you make informed decisions concerning the right medical approach that will prevent you from bearing children that have genetic anomalies.
BLOOD TYPES
There are four main blood groups as defined by the ABO system that is – A, B, AB and O. This grouping is done based on whether or not you have two specific antigens. Each group can either have a positive or negative rhesus.
- Blood group A has A antigens and B antibodies
- Also, Blood group B has the B antigens and A antibodies
- Blood group AB has A and B antigens but neither A nor B antibodies.
- Blood group O doesn’t have A or B antigens but has both A and B antibodies.
RH BLOOD SYSTEM
The red blood cells have another antigen known as the RhD antigen. If this protein is present, then your blood group is RhD positive. If it’s absent, your blood group is RhD negative.
This means you can belong to one of these blood groups.
- An RhD positive (A+)
- An RhD negative (A-)
- B RhD positive (B+)
- B RhD negative (B-)
- O RhD positive (O+)
- O RhD negative (O-)
- AB RhD positive (AB+)
- AB RhD negative (AB-)
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO COMPARE BLOOD GROUPS WITH YOUR SPOUSE
Having a different blood type is not so much of a problem, the same cannot be said for the Rhesus system. Having an incompatible Rhesus is a problem and that can affect both the mother and child. This is because if for instance, if the foetus in the mother’s womb is Rh+ and the mother is Rh-, the fetal blood will leak into the mother’s bloodstream and this can trigger an immune response.
It can also be that the mother’s body will create an antibody that will fight against the red blood cell of the baby. This can cause a risk during delivery even if there is no blood exchange between mother and child.
IN CONCLUSION
Knowing whether or not your Rhesus is compatible with your partner will be a good decision to make, so you know the steps to take.
