A restricted number of fellowships are available from EPFL to students with exceptional academic records at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. While EPFL directly funds some fellowships, it also collaborates with businesses and foundations to sponsor other fellowships.

Concerning the Fellowship Program:

EPFL offers a limited number of excellence fellowships, along with guaranteed housing, to candidates who have achieved remarkable academic results and who stand out in extracurricular activities, whether they be athletic, artistic, civic, or entrepreneurial, to reward the most outstanding students starting their Master’s studies.

Details of the scholarship:

• Host: École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland is the host institution.
• Study area: The University’s eligible master’s program
• Target audience: All students, particularly  international students

Scholarship worth:

The fellowship comprises the reservation of a student room in a residence hall and CHF 10,000 every semester.

The fellowship is awarded for three years to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree and for four semesters to those pursuing a master’s degree (renewal of the fellowship requires students to have completed at least 50 ECTS credits and an overall average of 5,0/6).

These fellowships, worth CHF 10,000 per semester, are available to both students who completed their bachelor’s degree at EPFL and those who began their studies at another university.

Their goal is to give students the freedom to focus on their Master’s degree while simultaneously giving them the chance to participate in a range of activities that will broaden their professional horizons and help them hone their cross-disciplinary talents.

With the help of this financial aid, the School also intends to broaden student’s horizons by letting them select their first jobs and internships based on their goals and areas of interest in science.

Qualifications:

Based on their academic records, EPFL awards a small number of fellowships to the most deserving individuals. They are meant for students who have excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities during their pre-university education.

In assessing applications, EPFL considers not only the applicant’s academic background but also their experiences in other domains, including research (publications, prizes, fellowships), entrepreneurship (patent applications, start-up creation), or societal commitment (associative or civic activities, festivals, and event organizations). All exceptional accomplishments that enhance the student’s profile will thus be considered.

For the fellowship to be extended for the second year of the Master’s program, students need to have earned a cumulative average of 5,0/6 and at least 50 ECTS credits.

Application guidelines:

Students in their final year of high school must check the appropriate box on their bachelor’s application form and submit the required application file by April 30th to be eligible for the Bachelor Excellence Fellowship.

Candidates must apply online using the same form as when applying to a master’s program by April 15 or December 15 to be eligible for the Master Excellence Fellowship (a box to check indicates that the candidate’s profile should also be considered for an excellence fellowship).
