Students from specified poor nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America are awarded scholarships by VLIR-UOS to undertake a training or master’s program related to development at Belgian universities. Tuition, housing, stipends, travel, and other program-related costs are all covered by the scholarships.

Scholarship duration, value, and benefits:

VLIR-UOS only provides full scholarships for the 12- or 24-month duration of the Master’s Program. The prizes cover living expenses (board and lodging), insurance, transportation, and tuition.

Qualifiability Standards:

Nationality and place of residence: At the time of application, candidates must be citizens of one of the 29 qualifying nations and residents of that nation, although they need not live there simultaneously.

Age: Candidates must be no older than 35 for an initial master’s degree and 45 for an advanced master’s degree on January 1st of the year of admission.

Professional background and experience: Preference will be given to candidates who work in higher education, government, or civil society, or who intend to work in one of these fields. Individuals without prior work experience or those working in the private sector might potentially be taken into consideration if their motivation and profile are strong enough.

A candidate may only apply for an ICP Connect scholarship once per year.

Candidates cannot have enrolled in a study program at a Belgian higher education institution or received a scholarship from the Belgian government to pursue a course of study before January 1st of the year of entry.

The Flanders government offers Master Mind Scholarships to international students.

The Flemish government has introduced a new scholarship program called Master Mind Scholarships to promote Flemish higher education’s internationalization. A maximum of 35 scholarships are given to deserving international Master’s candidates. The new student receives a scholarship of up to 7,500 euros per academic year. The applicant may be assessed a maximum annual tuition of 100 euros by the Flemish host institution.

Except for preparatory, bridge, and online learning programs, participating Flemish institutions provide eligible master’s degree programs.

The intended audience

All nationalities of students are included in this category. A small number of scholarships are designated for students from the United States (5), Mexico (3), Japan (3), and Palestine (2).

Scholarship duration and value:

A Master Mind Scholarship comes with no tuition costs and an annual stipend of €8,400. Recipients of the Master Mind Scholarship simply have to pay a little enrollment fee. The highest annual tuition fee that the Flemish Host Institution will charge the applicant for 2022–2023 is €115.80.

For a master’s program with 60 ECTS, the mobility period is one academic year; for a program with 120 ECTS, it is two academic years.

Qualifications:

The applicant wants to enroll in a Flemish higher education institution (referred to as the “Flemish host institution”) for a Master’s degree program.

The candidate needs to show that they have exceptional academic potential or success. Out of a possible 4, the student’s grade point average is 3.50.
