African Countries with the Best Education Systems
Education is the foundation for human development, hence most countries are stepping up their game to offer world-class education to their citizens and foreigners alike. The story is no different on the African continent with several Grade A schools. Education is a very necessary tool needed to help us succeed in the world.
Out of 140 countries, there were 38 African countries were said to have the best education systems. This is based on skills development by the World Education Forum. The criteria for the report were based on the general level of skills of the workforce and the quantity and quality of education these countries possess.
Top African Countries with the Best Education
1. To begin with, Seychelles
It is a country on an island. Seychelles is known to be the only African country that has completely achieved the UNESCO education for all goals. This goal is to ensure that children up to the age of 18 attend school for free. They only pay for their school uniforms.
The world economic Forum rates the country 69.3 in terms of education. The advancement in the country’s education is a result of the Seychelles government expanding more money into the education sector.
2. Secondly, South Africa
South Africa is ranked 84 on the global education system and has the best education system in Africa. There is a compulsory free education policy for children between the ages of 6 to 15.
In 2005, the country initiated the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) program which seeks to make learning a joint project between teachers and learners. This was to increase the student’s desire to thirst for knowledge. The country has been a place of learning for several students who are not natives.
3. After that, Mauritius
The country owes its educational advancement to British colonization. After gaining independence from the British, they still maintained the British education system which has made much impact on the country in the present day.
The Mauritius government has made free education available to its citizens from pre-elementary to tertiary level, however, education is mandatory for every citizen up until the age of 16. The estimated literacy rate of the country is around 84.40%.
4. Last but not least, Tunisia
The Tunisian government has made education free and compulsory to all its citizens from elementary to tertiary levels.
The Tunisian government through it rich oil revenue and continuous partnership with international financiers seeks to boost the education sector of the country. Thus, the government allocates 20% of the budget to develop the education sector. Ranked as the 71st in the global education system.
5. Lastly, Kenya
Kenya is one of the most popular countries on the continent with its wildlife and interesting tourist spot. The country runs an 8-year program for its primary school.
Although elementary and secondary education is free in Kenya, it is not mandatory. The levels of education in Kenya include Elementary, Secondary, Vocational, and Tertiary education. Additionally, the government spends a fraction of the nation’s budget, to improve the education system for its citizens.
