By ensuring that the system is optimized, expenditure for operating is reduced and making supply more available and reliable. This can be done by giving a correct meter reading and billing.

3 . Raising the tariffs:

In order for everyone on the grid to have access to electricity, there should be a rise in tariffs. This can best be achieved by being  conscious of consumer  details such as incremental tariff increases and targeting larger consumers that are well to do

4 . Cost reductions and increased cash collections:

It will be more prudent to increase the tariffs but reducing the cost by investing in transmission and distribution will cover all operational costs thereby improving the utility performance.

AFRICAN COUNTRIES THAT PAY LOW PRICES FOR THEIR ELECTRICITY

• One of the African countries that pay less for electricity is Cape Verde. The cost of electricity is 0.235 U.S. Dollars per kWh for households and 0.196 U.S. Dollars for businesses and this includes all components of the electricity bill such as the cost of power, distribution, and taxes.
• The second country is Sudan, the price of electricity in this country is 0.002 U.S. Dollars per kWh for households and 0.019 U.S. Dollar for businesses. The cost is low because of the reduction of high-cost thermal generation to 17 percent.
• Libya pays 0.004 U.S. Dollars per kWh for households and 0.006 U.S. Dollars for businesses.
• Another African country is Ethiopia which pays, about $0.09 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for power generation while the current tariff for electricity lies between 0.007 U.S. Dollars per kWh for households and 0.020 U.S. Dollar.
• Last but not least, Zimbabwe whose price of electricity is 0.013 U.S. Dollars per kWh for households.
