  • You have no prior academic experience in Scotland.
  • Must not have previously been awarded a Saltire Scholarship.
  • Fulfil the linguistic prerequisites for the course.
  • Fill out an application and submit it before the deadline. The application period for the 2024 Saltire International Scholarship has now ended for students from Canada, China (including Hong Kong), India, Japan, Pakistan, and the USA.

Criteria for Scotland’s Saltire Scholarships

Saltire Scholars must:

  • Uphold a standard of conduct that will preserve the positive reputation of the Saltire Scholarship Programme and the institution where they are enrolled.
  • Engage in the program’s extracurricular activities. Scholars will attend a welcoming reception and a year-end conference. (Scholars are permitted to be absent in cases of extraordinary circumstances.).
  • Support communication efforts to promote Scotland and Scottish higher education, drawing from personal experience. This may involve sharing on social media about their visit and activities in Scotland.
  • Willing to participate in an interview, including on camera, during either the welcome or end-of-year event, giving the Scottish Government and the relevant university permission to use the text and footage indefinitely.
  • Grant permission to the Scottish Government to utilize any images, blogs, quotes, etc. related to your Saltire Scholarship involvement for marketing objectives.

  • To apply for undergraduate study in Scotland, you must submit your application online through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Centre (UCAS).
