The best way to do breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is the first way you begin to nurture your child. For many women, breastfeeding tends to be a problem to them because they cannot produce the milk needed for their baby’s growth.
WHAT IS BREASTFEEDING?
Breastfeeding is a natural way of feeding your newborn baby. The baby feeds by latching its mouth to the mother’s breast and sucking on it.
The first milk you produce as a newborn mom has something in it called colostrum. Colostrum is a protein-rich liquid that keeps your baby hydrated. The colostrum acts as an antibody that protects the baby against infections.
BENEFITS OF BREASTFEEDING
There are numerous benefits that come with breastfeeding your child. These benefits include protecting your baby against short and long-term diseases, it lowers the child’s risk of getting asthma, diabetes, obesity, or ear infection. Infants who are breastfed have a lower risk of sudden infant death (SID).
HOW LONG SHOULD ONE BREASTFEED?
Health care providers recommend that you feed your baby with breast milk exclusively for the first six months before adding a new diet to their food. There are some mothers who love to breastfeed till the first year.
TIPS ON HOW TO BREASTFEED
- Your baby should determine how long it’s going to nurse as the baby knows its needs better than you do at the moment.
- Also, you should anticipate your baby’s needs by watching out for signs your baby makes when hungry. The signs can include your baby sucking on any material next to them, opening and closing their mouth, sticking out their tongue, and some more.
- Again you should find the best position that works for your baby. There are some positions that best work for your baby, pay attention to that. In breastfeeding your baby, your baby should be positioned in a way that their mouth is level with your nipple.
- Last but not least, stay hydrated. It is very important to keep drinking water or enough fluid. Water renews the body, so as you breastfeed it is advisable to drink a glass of water after every breastfeeding session in order to produce more milk.
