POSITION: Plant Operator
About this role:
To run the Ahafo Process plant’s process circuits and mobile equipment in a safe and competent way, resulting in optimal production.
In this role, you will:
- Process Plant Operations
- Operate all process plant circuits independently to meet daily targets and Key
- Performance Indicators (KPIs) for circuits such as crushing, grinding, Carbon In Leach (CIL), elution, counter current decantation, thickeners, tailings, reagent mixing, water services, and gold room operations.
- Monitor and record the process circuit’s operational performance, and make changes as needed to ensure optimal production.
- Troubleshoot equipment and circuit performance while operating beyond usual limits.
- Notify the Supervisor of any changes that may impair optimal productivity.
- Monitor and check the process plant’s equipment to guarantee proper operation and performance.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards in all process circuits.
- Work with the metallurgical team to ensure that the process plant has the best metallurgical performance possible.
- Collaborate with the maintenance team to optimize process plant equipment performance and availability.
- Operate heavy equipment to support normal and nonroutine tasks, such as 966 and 930 loaders, bobcats, forklifts, excavators, liner handlers, dozers, and overhead cranes, to ensure that the various circuits run efficiently.
- Added non-routine tasks during shutdowns.
- Participate in the formulation and revision of the Process Operations Short Term Plans (STPs).
- Conduct a complete shift handover, accurately detailing all necessary information in various log books and reports specific to the incoming shift / personnel.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects to help improve the performance of the process plant operation.
- Maintain an understanding of the monthly production targets and progress.
- Operate two-way radio communications clearly and concisely with Foremen, Maintenance
- Personnel, other Operators, and Senior Staff, and follow directions.
- Respond to requests and instructions in a prompt and effective manner.
- Complete all duties defined in the Processing Operations Management Operating System (MOS) Elements with the quality and timeliness standards assigned to this function.

- Plan your own actions on a shift-by-shift basis in accordance with the allocated process plant production schedules.
- Meet job objectives by adhering to and implementing the designated process plant production schedule.

- Maintain high levels of health, safety, and environmental awareness.
- Monitor your own and your colleagues’ compliance with health and safety precautions, protocols, production criteria, and standards.
- Report any violations of established health and safety procedures and regulations to the Process Supervisor.
- Adhere to Newmont’s Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines.
- Demonstrate compliance with standards and practices by wearing obligatory protective clothes and PPE as needed.
- Reporting and addressing dangerous actions or circumstances.
- Actively participates in safety meetings and encourages safe workplace practices.
- Strictly following established Standard Operating protocols (SOPs), Short Term Plans (STPs), work policies, and security protocols.
- Actively participating in hazard detection and correction.
- Reporting environmental spills quickly and taking proper precautions to prevent contamination.
- Attend all safety meetings.
Your Training, Skills, and Experience Checklist:
Formal qualifications (including professional registrations):
- Senior School Certificate Examination.
- Hold an E-Class driving licence.
- A Mincom Process/Equipment Operations Certificate of Competence will be an extra benefit.
Additional knowledge:
- A minimum declaration of competence in the following metalliferous courses (Citi and Guilds):
- MNMPRD104A – Carry out pump operations.
- MNMPRD105A – Perform valve operations.
- Successful completion of other metalliferous courses (Citi and Guilds) is preferred.
- Practical knowledge of processing plant equipment.
- Working understanding of process operations, notably crushing, Semi Autogenous
- Grinding (SAG) – Ball Mill Grinding, Leach / Carbon In Leach (CIL), Elution, Reagents, and Tails Management.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5–6 years of operational experience in a gold processing plant, with at least 3–5 years in the Process Plant operational environment.
- Commissioning experience with process plants will be advantageous.
