The GRIPS Young Leaders Program MEXT Scholarship 2024 in Japan is available to international students. The scholarship enables students to pursue master ‘s-level programs in the subject of Public Policy at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies. The scholarship’s deadline is May 2, 2024.

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology created the Young Leaders Program (YLP) in 2001. The program aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Cultivate prospective leaders in certain nations
  • Establish extensive interpersonal connections among the world’s leaders
  • Foster amicable ties among the nations involved, particularly Japan.
  • Enhance the caliber of policy formulation among the nations involved.

The curriculum aims to enhance students’ awareness of international/regional politics and economics, while also deepening their knowledge of Japanese politics and economy.

  • GRIPS established the School of Government in 2001 and later introduced the YLP School of Local Governance in 2009.
  • Both programs’ curricula cover a wide range of disciplines relating to public administration and policy formulation.
  • They offer students the opportunity to participate in extensive talks with prominent Japanese figures, including lawmakers, senior government officials, corporate executives, and journalists.
  • The curriculum includes both field trip/workshop I-II components and a final paper that is based on independent study or research.
  • Additionally, students are given the chance to engage in policy research in partnership with many institutions, including the central government.

The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) is a prestigious international policy school situated in the center of Tokyo. Its primary objective is to enhance democratic government globally. Educational Attainment:

The GRIPS Young Leaders Program MEXT Scholarship 2024 in Japan offers the opportunity to pursue Master’s level programs at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies.

Benefits of the scholarship:

  • Monthly allowance:
  1. The cost for MP1, MP2, and PA during the master’s degree is JPY147,000.
  2. The cost for the PA (Ph.D. course) at G-cube and STI is JPY148,000.
  • Fees for application, admission, and tuition
  • A round-trip economy-class air ticket from your home country to Japan when you start studying at GRIPS, and another round-trip economy-class air ticket from Japan to your home country when you finish your studies at GRIPS.

Applicable Nationalities:

International students are eligible for this grant.

Requirements for eligibility:

  • To be eligible for the program, applicants must be exceptionally promising government personnel.
  • Candidates must possess significant professional experience in public administration, often at least three years in their country of origin.
  • Admission to the program is determined by assessing the candidates’ capacity to emerge as future leaders in their respective countries.
  • Candidates must exhibit the capacity to make substantial contributions to the development of their respective countries.
  • The program’s objective is to cultivate enduring friendships and establish trust between Japan and other nations worldwide.
  • Must be younger than 35 years old by April 1, 2024.
  • Citizens of nations that have established diplomatic ties with Japan.
  • Individuals who do not reside in Japan.
  • Applicants must have at least three years of full-time professional experience in public Administration.
  • Students must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting evidence of achieving a minimum score of 6.0 in the IELTS exam or a score of 79 in the TOEFL iBT exam.

Eligibility for Application

Graduate programs at the master’s level and doctoral programs that can be completed in five years.

  • A bachelor’s degree or a qualification of equal value

Ph.D. programs that last for three years.

  • A master’s degree or a qualification of equal value
