Position: Financial Assistant
The Peace Corps is a government organization in the United States that sends trained men and women to other countries to help build peace, friendship, and long-term development. Peace Corps Volunteers are trained people who work in Ghana in the fields of health, education, and farming.
Also, The agency in Ghana wants to hire a highly skilled professional to lead the creation and maintenance of a program that helps the Post reach its goal of raising and supporting Volunteers who are strong, culturally aware, responsible, and able.
The Financial Assistant works for the Deputy Director of Management and Operations. He or she is in charge of a lot of the Peace Corps Ghana office’s money management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the preparation of the Annual Operating Plan (Budget), the Quarterly Budget
- Reviews (QBRs), and the annual close-out review with the DMO.
- May help manage the budget for Peace Corps Ghana’s Training Center and oversee spending for two sub-offices around the country.
- May make a list of unfunded needs and rank them in order of importance for the Deputy Director of Management and Operations (DDMO) and the Country Director (CD) to look over.
- Helps monitor the implementation of approved plans by making regular budget analyses for the DDMO and quarterly budget reports for all Programmatic Units that compare spending to budget goals.
- When necessary, works with other staff and the DDMO to reallocate the Post’s funds to better reflect changing quarterly budget trends and needs while staying within the budget.
- Also makes reports on spending trends and cost analysis to help make the annual budget.
- Prepares periodic budget and spending analyses, reports, and monthly reconciliations as directed by the DDMO.
- Uses government accounting software to create accounting records and provide insights and knowledge of Peace Corps spending needs.
- Directs the distribution of funds in close collaboration with the DDMO.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED
- A college or university degree, preferably in accounting or a similar field.
- At least two years of work experience in the field of accounting and financial management.
- At least three years of work experience in an international cooperation organization with people from different cultures.
- Excellent speaking, writing, presentation, and all-around communication skills
- They must know how finances work and how to do accounting, or they must learn on the job while they are on probation.
- Must be very good with computers and know a lot about Microsoft, especially its most popular programs.
- Must be tactful and have good skills for communicating across cultures.
- Must be able to work well with other people and act quickly in times of trouble.
Qualifications Desired
- Work experience in the United States or travel abroad.
- Proven ability to solve problems on your own.
- Know and understand the values, history, and culture of the United States.
- Speak and write English very well.
