ROLE: Director of CSIR-OIL Palm Research Institute

The Position

The successful candidate will:

• Serve as the Institute’s Head, reporting to the Director-General for the day-to-day administration of the Institute’s affairs.
• Form effective collaborations with appropriate institutions and agencies both inside and beyond the CSIR.
• Coordinate the institute’s prioritized research under the broad direction of the Director-General
• Encourage technology transfer to industry/agricultural businesses and the commercialization of research in general.
• Coordination of research financing projects, provision of services and inputs to define research priorities and formulation and implementation of scientific and technology strategies
• Be in charge of the general management and growth of the institute’s human resource base.

Qualifications and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have:

• A Ph.D. or equivalent qualification in agricultural, biological, physical, or similar sciences from a recognized institution or institute. (CSIR-OPRI)
• A Ph.D. or equivalent qualification in forestry and/or natural resource management from a recognized university or institution. (CSIR-FORIG)
• At least 12 years of experience in research and development (R&D), including at least 5 years of effective management experience
• Outstanding research contribution as demonstrated by scientific publications. The research output should be at least equal to that of a Principal Research Scientist/Associate Professor
• Capability to organize, direct, and coordinate activities within a national development research institute
• Knowledge of relevant agencies, as well as the capacity to connect with top executives in other organizations and agencies
• Demonstrated ability to motivate research workers and support personnel
• Capability to develop and obtain funds for research efforts, both internally and externally.
• The ability to turn policy decisions into actionable programs
• Positive interpersonal relationships
• The applicant must be 55 years old or younger.

Tenure: The position is initially for five years and may be renewed if adequate performance on the job is demonstrated.

Remuneration: The remuneration is competitive and includes fringe benefits.

Kumasi is the location.
