Job Title: Geology Superintendent

Job Description

Location: Bolgatanga office Title: Exploration and Mining Geology Department: Mineral Resources Management (MRM)

Job reports to the Mineral Resource Manager, with direct subordinates including Senior Geologists, Senior Resource Geologists, Database Geologists, and Senior Mine Geos.

Job Purpose

The Geology Superintendent will efficiently and successfully manage geological activities for our exploration and mining projects. This role is in charge of managing geological teams, overseeing exploration programs, reporting on statutory requirements, ensuring accurate resource modeling, development, and control, and supporting the company’s overall operational objectives (Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd and Cardinal Resources Ghana Ltd).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, review, and advise on the planning, design, budgeting, and execution of exploration programs (including regional and near-mine exploration) aimed at discovering new resources and expanding current ones. Mineral resource development and management in Cardinal Namdini includes property licenses, mining leases, and exploration initiatives.
  • Oversee all drilling contractors on exploration and mine operational sites, ensuring that quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) processes, as well as all drilling/logging/sampling SOPs, are rigorously followed.
  • Monitor project progress, regulate expenses, report on performance, and ensure that projects are finished on time and within budget.
  • Oversee and verify the models and interpretations created by Resource Geologists.
  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety and environmental stewardship within the geology team, ensuring that all geological activities adhere to the discipline’s health, safety, and environmental requirements (HSE) at all levels.
  • Collaborate with several functional departments, such as the CSR, Engineering, and HSE teams, to coordinate all geological resource and reserve processes related to the project.
  • Assist the Mine Technical Team with mine development and operations. Collaborate with the planning and engineering teams to integrate geological data into mining operations.
  • Establish set skills and conduct performance (KPI) evaluation and appraisal for staff in the discipline. Manage, coach, and grow a team of senior geologists, exploration geologists, mine geologists, and geological technicians.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the MRM manager or Vice President in accordance with the needs of the company.

Required Skill or Experience

Minimum Qualification(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in geology, geological engineering, earth science, or a related geological discipline.
  • An MSc in Geology is desirable.
  • Mincom Statutory Certification for Geologists (where available).
  • It is preferable to be a member of GHIG/AUSIMM/AIG/SAIMM/WAIMM or a similar industry association.

Experience

  • Requirements: 12 years of experience in mineral resource management, including at least 7 years as a superintendent or manager in exploration or mining.
  • A successful track record in exploratory discovery and gold mining activities.

Knowledge

  • A solid understanding of mine geology data collection methodologies, production planning, and open pit mine operation and design.
  • Advanced expertise of 3D mining software packages, such as geostatistics, wireframing, and block modeling.
  • Strong awareness of resource estimating methodologies and reporting requirements (e.g., JORC, NI 43-101), as well as basic knowledge of nonlinear approaches.
  • Understanding of rock blasting procedures and their implications for ore recovery and waste management.
