POSITION: Agric Production Manager

Job Description

International agriculture, water sanitation, and hygiene NGO iDE Ghana is hiring an Agric Production Manager.

Responsibilities

The Agric Production Manager will work with Ghanaian smallholder farmers under the agronomist’s direction to produce and market high-value crops using climate-smart agricultural practices and agricultural extension advice. The Agric Production Manager will manage farming activities, give technical agronomic and irrigation training to Farm Business Coordinators (FBCs), monitor Village Savings and Loan Associations, and provide nutrition training.

Relationship reporting

  • Manages Farm Business Coordinators with specific duties and responsibilities (modifications allowed at any time).
  • Find and recruit water-accessible agricultural communities for iDE-Korsung year-round farming with Supervisor’s help.
  • Install the iDE-Korsung production plan with farmers and teach them in land preparation, bed and nursery preparation, transplanting, pest and disease management, harvesting, and post-harvest activities in conjunction with the supervisor.
  • Select and grow disease- and insect-tolerant, high-yielding plant varieties with the supervisor’s help.
  • Train farmers on irrigation and coordinate dry-season cultivation and production.
  • Analyze soil with the supervisor’s help to decide on fertilizers and inputs for high yield.
  • For environmental sustainability, encourage crop and soil health-regenerative methods.
  • Facilitate independent farmer contracts for crop production and market selling.
  • Help recruit Farm Business Advisors per IDE technical specifications.
  • Send a monthly productivity and farm management field report.
  • Contact the Operations & Procurement team to buy seeds, fertilizer, pesticides, and other farm inputs to run the farm smoothly.
  • Facilitate links between mechanized service providers, input suppliers, seed growers, and aggregators for timely farmer delivery with supervisor assistance.
  • Manage community Village Saving and Loans Association groups.
  • Train women in family nutrition with WIAD and GHS with supervisor support.
  • Work with stakeholders to incorporate gender into iDE Korsung project activities with supervisor assistance.
  • Perform any other role-related tasks.

Essential Skills or Experience

  • BSc in agriculture, horticulture, farm management, or comparable field OR industrial experience.
  • At least 2 years of field crop and horticulture farming experience
  • 1–2 years managing commercial farms over 10 acres
  • Farm job progress and metrics data logging experience.
  • Experience with crop production techniques and cost estimation.
  • Social skills for agricultural stakeholder management. Review and implement production plans and project management tools
  • Knowledgeable with data entry and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to apply research-proven farm methods.
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Fluency in Dagbani.
  • Work well in teams where ideas feed on each other.
  • Interested in fresh ideas and methods.
  • Results-oriented.
  • Available to work in remote areas.
  • Maintains composure under pressure.
  • Ability to collaborate across cultures.
  • Has integrity and a great work ethic.
  • Well-organized, confident, and communicative.
