How To Identify Fake and Scam Facebook Pages

Facebook is a social media network that connects billions of people. However, some of these people do not have the interest of the fellows at heart. They take on the identity of people, especially celebrities, and destroy their reputation with some activities they carry on their pages. There have been a number of people who have fallen victims to these impersonators. Thankfully, there are ways to identify these fake pages.

WHAT IS A FAKE FACEBOOK PAGE?

A fake Facebook page is a page that has been created by fraudsters or impersonators of other people or companies on the social media platform. These fake pages are mostly created to Scam unsuspecting individuals of their hard-earned cash. Mostly it is scammers and bloggers that do this. For bloggers, they do this to gain more followers or reach a bigger audience.

HOW TO SPOT A FAKE FACEBOOK PAGE

1 . Unverified pages

One of the ways to identify a fake Facebook page is to check if the page has been verified. A page that has been verified carries a blue tick in front of the name. Facebook allows for large corporations or celebrities with a large following and media houses to be verified.

In an instance, where you see a big organization or a celebrity with a large following without a blue tick, you should be wary of having anything to do with them. To be sure you are following the right individual or organization,  search for their names, when more than one appears with the same profile, check if one has been verified. If it has, that means the others are impersonators.

2 . Check for names that have been altered

Most of these scammers create pages for known brands and celebrities. To know if it is not a fake account, take notice of the name including the spellings. It is not possible to bear the same page name on Facebook.

So if the organization or person they want to impersonate has a page, the scammers won’t be able to have the same name. When that happens they make some tiny alterations that can be unnoticeable.

For instance, if a Facebook page is Jackie Appiah, the fake page could be Jackee Apppiah.

4 . Pages that give you an offer that sounds too good to be true

If people are offering a product at a very cheap price, your senses should alert you that it is a scam. We should stay alert while surfing the net because many scammers are ready to dupe you with the many tricks they have up their sleeves.
