A cement is a substance used for construction and serves as an adhesive to bond other materials to them. Cement is rarely used on its own, it is normally mixed with sand and gravel. The cement industry in Africa saw a massive improvement in 2020 despite the pandemic that took over the world.

The cement industry contributes 1.3% of the continent’s Gross Domestic Product.

1 . Firstly, DANGOTE CEMENT

To begin with, Dangote Cement. It is the leading producer of cement in Africa with a capacity of 45.6mpta, 29.3mt which is produced in Nigeria. The company has operations in more than ten African countries.

Dangote cement has been a major competitor in the market, that is because it has built a strong reputation which makes it the preferred choice for many constructors. Alison Dangote is the owner of this cement factory, he has offered employment to more than 4,477 people. The factory also earns a revenue of ₦385 billion.

2 . Secondly, DZATA CEMENT

Another cement factory owned by an African is Dzata cement. It is one of the emerging cement factories in the construction industry. It has a production capacity of two million tons per year. On average, the plant produces 120 bags per minute. Ibrahim Mahama, a businessman owns this cement factory.

3 . Thirdly, SEPHAKU CEMENT

It is a cement manufacturing company in South Africa. The company produces the most efficient cement and clinker. It is a subsidiary of Dangote cement. It generates $582,792 in sales.

4 . Also, SIMBA CEMENT

Another cement company is Simba Cement. Simba Cement is a subsidiary of the Devki Group of Companies in Kenya. The group has a presence in other countries like Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The company earns revenue of US$650+ million.

5 . Lastly, SAVANNAH CEMENT

It is a cement manufacturing company with a capacity of 1.5 million tons. The company is partly owned by three Kenyan Donald Mwaura, John Gachanga, and Benson Sande Ndeta.
