How to DM on Instagram

The Instagram app provides one with various options for interacting with other users. One of such ways is by sending a direct message (DM). A direct message is a message that is sent privately to one or more people. Direct messaging does not require you to be following the user or vice versa. Here is how to DM somebody.

DIRECT MESSAGING SOMEONE FROM THE INSTAGRAM APP

• Open the Instagram app on your mobile device and tap on your home screen or tap the paper airplane icon in the top-right corner.
• At the top right of the screen, click on New Message.
• Add each person you want to send the message to.
• Tap Chat at the top right of the screen.
• Input your message, you can add audio, picture, video, or a gif.
• After, you tap on send
• In your inbox, you will notice if your recipient has read your message or not.

DIRECT MESSAGING SOMEONE FROM THEIR INSTAGRAM PROFILE PAGE.

• Open the Instagram app and look out for the profile page of the business or person you want to contact.
• Tap Message
• Input your message, it can be a  video, audio, picture, or gif.
• When ready, tap on Send.

WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO WITH DMS

You can start a group chat by tapping the New Message icon, searching for the people you want to include, and choosing chat.

• Direct Messaging allows you to name or rename a group chat.
• It also allows you to remove people from the group chat.
• DM allows you to leave a chat. You can do so by tapping conversation, then tap the chat name or list of participants at the top. Scroll down and tap Leave Chat. If you created the chat, tap End Chat to remove everyone, including yourself.
• You can also video chat in a direct message
• Again, you can send reels to a DM
• Also, stories can be sent to a DM
• You can DM replies to stories you have viewed.
