The earth is made up of 71% of water and the remaining percentage makes up landmasses. These lands have countries and millions of people that have been termed continents.
A continent is a large area of land that is separated from others by water or other distinct features. There are seven continents in the world and they are Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Sometimes the continents of Europe and Asia are sometimes merged and called Eurasia. The largest continent by land is Asia and the smallest in Australia.

1 . ASIA
Asia is the largest and most populous continent in the world. The continent spreads over 17.2 million square miles and has a population of 4.6 billion out of the 7.7 billion-person population. The continent also boasts of the highest and lowest peaks on Earth.
The highest mountain in the world which is Mt. Everest is the highest point at 29,035 feet (8,850 meters) above sea level. The lowest point of the Earth is the Dead Sea which is more than 1,414 feet (431 meters) below sea level.
2 . AFRICA
Africa is the second-largest continent in the world in both size and population. The landmass of the continent spans 11.6 million square and has a population of about 1.3 billion people. Together with Asia, these two main continents make up the areas with the largest population in the world. The continent is home to the longest river in the world that is the Nile river which extends 4,100 miles (6,600-kilometers) from Sudan to the Mediterranean Sea.
3 . NORTH AMERICA
North America is the third largest continent after Africa and Asia. The landmass of the continent covers a space of around 24,709,000 square kilometers (9,540,000 square miles), about 16.5% of the world’s property zone, and about 4.8% of its all–out surface. Although it is the third-largest continent, it has a small population of 369 million people. The continent has the largest freshwater lake in the world that is Lake Superior and it covers more than 31,700 square miles (82,100 square kilometers) between the United States and Canada.
4 . SOUTH AMERICA
The continent covers a space spanning 6.9 million square miles (17.8 million square kilometers). It has a population of 431 million people. It has the most populated city in the world – São Paulo. The continent boast of the longest mountain range in the world. That is Andes Mountains stretch 4,350 miles (7,000 kilometers) from Venezuela south to Chile.
5 . ANTARCTICA
Antarctica can be found at the South Pole. The continent covers a space of 5.5 million square miles (14.2 million square kilometers). Although it is the 5th largest, it doesn’t have permanent residents. About 98% of the land in Antarctica is covered by ice Antarctica is the coldest of Earth’s mainlands.
