5 COUNTRIES ON THE SAHARA DESERT

The Sahara desert, which is an African continent, lies on the border of the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Sahel savannah to the south. One fact about the Sahara is the water is usually scarce.

However, research has it that the Sahara has to rivers permanent rivers: The Nile and Niger rivers with about 20 lakes. This river thus serves as the source of water for all oases in the Sahara desert. There are about 10 countries within the Sahara desert. Below is a list of 5 of the countries in the Sahara desert.

1. EGYPT

The Desert of Egypt is located west of the Nile River and its borders stretch to the Libyan part. Specifically, the Sahara desert of Egypt is located on the Gulf Kebir plateau near the Egyptian, Sudanese and Libyan borders. The desert covers about twothirds of the entire country,  Egypt.  The desert is filled with rocks and sand, with an altitude of 3,300 feet.

2. LIBYA

The Sahara desert in Libya is one of the driest and harshest regions of the Sahara.  They experience very low rainfall. In the Sahara desert of Libya, there is also a large variety of landscapes with a number of mountains and oases. When it is daytime, the temperature there reaches up to 50°C, especially during the summer.

3.  MALI

In general, one of the hottest countries in the world is Mali, and the Sahara desert fills up about 65% of the country. People usually refer to the Sahara desert of Mali as the pressure cooker of Africa.

4. CHAD

In the northern part, the area is mostly covered by the Sahara desert.  In Chad, there are traces of rainfall with few oases and wells which serve as a source of water. This has led to the production of crops such as millet, date plans as well as other crops.

5. MOROCCO

Morocco is also one of the hottest desserts in the world. The Sahara desert reaches about 180 meters in height. The desert is also full of archaeological and other fossils. The Sahara is also mostly rocky.

One of the general beliefs about the Sahara desert is that it was among the first regions to be farmed in Africa. The desert covers a large area in North Africa and is one of the world’s hottest deserts.
