5 Big Health Risks of Too Much Belly Fat
Belly fat has always been associated with health risks. That is because visceral fat is a dangerous type of fat in the abdomen. This type of fat accumulates around the internal organs like the liver and intestines. Visceral fat has also been linked to some chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and dementia.
Normally people who look obese are those thought to be at risk of visceral fat. However, people of normal weight can accumulate these fats behind the abdominal region. What might have to belly fat means to your well-being?
SOME HEALTH RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH HAVING MORE BELLY FAT
1 . High Blood Pressure

The visceral fat does not just affect insulin levels but also affects the cells that regulate blood pressure. A study among Chinese adults demonstrated a link between belly fat and high blood pressure. The study also showed that the adults that had gained weight in their mid-section upped the risk of their blood pressure increases by 35% for men and 28% for women. A healthy waist circumference for men should not be above 40 and for women, it should not be above 35.
2 . Heart Attack

Too much fat in the body risks the body of a heart attack. However, belly fat poses the most risk. This is because it pumps fatty acids which signal the liver to produce more bad cholesterol than good cholesterol. Most people that have suffered a heart attack are people that have a large waistline. Having a big belly puts you at risk of a repeated heart attack even if you have survived before.
3 . Dementia

Too much belly fat can also have an effect on the Central nervous system. It may shrink your brain and boost dementia. According to a neurological professor, the greater the amount of belly fat, the smaller your brain becomes. Your cognitive abilities start to decline as you put on weight.
4 . Cancer

A publication made in 2016, found out that women who had their waist circumference above 35 inches or were the same hip circumference had a risk of developing breast cancer. Another publication also found out that women especially those in their post-menopausal stage and who had too much belly fat could double their risk for colorectal cancer.
5 . Diabetes
The visceral fat that accumulates around your internal organs raises the risk of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Researchers have said that belly fat becomes threatening if it gets inflamed. However, there have been no findings to show how the belly fats get inflamed.
