About the University of Alaska, Fairbanks

The University of Alaska system’s original location was the Fairbanks campus, which opened its doors in the early 1900s. It serves as the main residential university, the administrative center of the system, the sole provider of doctorate-level degrees, and the exclusive provider of graduate programs in the mathematical sciences.

Approximately 6,000 students, including 8% of graduate students, are enrolled in the 2,250-acre Fairbanks campus; more than 9,000 students are enrolled in all UAF campuses. Perched atop a ridge with sweeping views of the Tanana River Valley and the City of Fairbanks, the campus. On campus, there are several renowned national and international scientific research institutes. This location is also home to several state and federal entities’ research centers.

There are locations in this world where you are meant to find your true self. Here at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, as wisdom passes from one generation to the next, innovative ideas are blooming and a new academic culture is taking shape. Smarter questions. superior responses.

89 percent of all students are undergraduates, making UAF a hub for diversity and innovative ideas. You’ll meet others who share your desire to succeed rapidly, whether you’re a recent high school graduate or returning to school to begin a new chapter in your life. And because Alaska’s huge environmental laboratory is right in our neighborhood, UAF draws extraordinary people, including both adventure seekers and intellectual geniuses.

With seven campuses spread around the state, we are home to nearly 8,500 international students, all of whom are striving for greatness. The UAF community lives genuinely, believing that knowledge truly is power, that life is what you make of it, and that your best guide will always be a natural curiosity about the world around you.
