If you satisfy our qualifying criteria and fulfill all other prerequisites, we strongly urge you to apply. We do not consider your gender, age (regardless of maximum age restriction), sexual orientation, religion, marital or parental status, caste, class, or any other traits as relevant factors. The crucial factor is your capacity to present a well-considered application that showcases your aptitude for thriving in a rigorous master’s program in the United Kingdom, and your ability to articulate a distinct vision for your future.
Eligibility
Applications that do not match the eligibility criteria will be denied. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that you fulfill our eligibility requirements before beginning your application.
To qualify for a Chevening Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Hold citizenship in a country or territory that is eligible for the Chevening program.
- You must go back to your place of citizenship and stay there for at least two years after your award has finished.
- You must have finished all the requirements for an undergraduate degree that will qualify you to apply for a postgraduate program at an institution in the UK before submitting your application. This is generally considered to be similar to a second-class upper division 2:1 honors degree in the United Kingdom, although it may vary based on the specific subject and university you choose.
- Possess a minimum of two years (equal to 2,800 hours) of professional experience.
- Submit applications to three distinct suitable university courses in the UK and obtain an unconditional offer from one of these options by the specified date mentioned in the application timeline.
Ineligible for a Chevening Scholarship
If you meet any of the following criteria, you are ineligible for a Chevening Scholarship:
- Possess British citizenship or dual British citizenship, unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or have BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong.
- Possess refugee status in a nation that is not eligible for the Chevening program.
- Individuals who are nationals of a country that is eligible for the Chevening scholarship and who possess refugee status in another country that is also eligible for the scholarship are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
- If you are currently employed, previously employed, or a relative* of someone employed by His Majesty’s Government, including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, all British Embassies/High Commissions, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade, the UKVI, the British Council, a sponsoring UK university, or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities within the last two years from the opening of Chevening applications, please indicate.
- Individuals who are currently employed, previously employed, or have relatives employed by Chevening Partner organizations are eligible to apply. However, if the employment occurred within the past two years, they are not eligible to receive a Chevening Partner Award from the organization they work for, previously worked for, or are affiliated with through relatives.
- You had previously pursued studies in the United Kingdom with financial support from a scholarship provided by the UK government.
- Possessing a master’s degree does not hinder your eligibility to apply for a Chevening Award for pursuing a second master’s degree in the UK. However, it is essential to articulate how this additional degree will contribute to your professional objectives and enable you to drive positive transformation in your home country.
- After submission, submissions are electronically screened against our qualifying criteria. Any applications that are considered ineligible will be excluded from the selection process. Kindly refer to the compilation of typical mistakes provided below. Should you commit these errors in your application form, your application will be deemed ineligible. Kindly be aware that once you have submitted your application, it is not feasible to make any retrospective modifications.
