Academic Level:

The Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Fellowships for 2025 in the USA are open to anyone who wishes to pursue fellowship-level programs at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The fellowships are fully funded.

Requirements for eligibility:

Which individuals are eligible to apply for the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Fellowship?

This fellowship is intended for people who are deeply committed to the practice of peacebuilding. The following items are required:

  • Demonstrate your dedication to promoting international understanding and peace by excelling in your professional endeavors, achieving academic success, and actively engaging in community service.
  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership abilities: Possess innate qualities that inspire and drive individuals.
  • Academic Excellence: Possess a bachelor’s degree with a robust GPA (at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
  • Required job experience: Possess a minimum of 3 years of pertinent full-time job experience (compensated or uncompensated), preferably exceeding this threshold. Additionally, there is a prerequisite of a 3-year interval between the completion date of your most recent undergraduate or graduate degree and the commencement of the fellowship. Applicants who are currently enrolled as students are ineligible to apply.
  • Second Language Proficiency (Preferred): Possessing knowledge of an additional language is advantageous!
  • Standardized Tests (Possible Exemption): The TOEFL or IELTS exams may be necessary, however, Duke and UNC provide waivers based on the curriculum you select. We can assist you in navigating this situation. Please be aware that Duke University’s MIDP program does not mandate the submission of GRE scores.
  • Additionally, it is worth noting that certain programs at the University of North Carolina have chosen to waive the GRE requirement. These programs include geography, MEITE, global studies, social work, and public health. For specific information, please go to the program websites or reach out to us directly.

The Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Fellowship invites applications from individuals of all abilities, including those with disabilities.

Procedure for Application:

The Rotary Peace Fellowships are awarded through a global selection process that is highly competitive. Every Rotary district has the authority to put up individuals for consideration in the global selection process. Each year, a total of 130 fellowships are available for individuals pursuing master’s-level studies at one of the five Rotary Peace Centers.

Only individuals who are not from the country in which they reside can be allocated to a center located outside of their native country. It is strongly recommended that all Rotary districts actively seek suitable persons within their region to submit applications for the fellowship.

The Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center provides support to Rotary Peace Fellows for the whole 21-month period of the academic program. The fellowship encompasses financial support for tuition and additional university expenses, a monthly allowance for accommodation and meals, a reserve fund, funding for attending conferences and conducting research, support for summer internships, and transportation between the fellow’s residence and study location at the beginning and end of the fellowship duration.

The application for the Rotary Peace Fellowship for programs commencing in the 2025–26 academic year is currently available. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2024.
