University of Gloucestershire

The University of Gloucestershire is a public institution located in Gloucestershire, England. The institution is situated over three campuses: Francis Close Hall, The Park, and Oxstalls in Cheltenham, and a Centre for Fashion, Art, and Photography in Cheltenham.

The university is the most recent result of numerous amalgamated, renamed, and restructured institutions of further and higher education. It has a history that covers almost two hundred years. The institution was formed by combining two separate sources of educational services in Gloucestershire: those offered by the local government and those established by the Anglican Church.

The university’s origins can be traced back to the Cheltenham Mechanics’ Institute in 1834 and the Cheltenham Training College established in 1847 by Reverend Francis Close. In 1990, two distinct entities merged to form Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education. The college was granted university status in October 2001.

The institution offers almost 100 undergraduate courses and approximately 57 taught postgraduate courses, divided between two faculties: the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Business, and the Faculty of Art and Technology.
