Study In Germany: DAAD-EPOS Scholarships For Developing Countries 2024

The DAAD-EPOS Scholarships for Developing Countries—MIDE 2024–2025 in Germany are available to international students. The scholarship provides funding for Master’s level programs in the fields of international development studies and economics, which are offered at Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin (HTW Berlin). The scholarship’s deadline is August 31, 2024.

The HTW, the largest university of applied sciences in Berlin, offers an 18-month full-time Master’s degree program in “International and Development Economics” (MIDE) that is taught solely in English.

The program targets students from developing and transitioning nations, as well as Germany and other affluent countries, who possess a strong interest in the economic challenges encountered by “third world” countries. The goal of this program is to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue careers in areas related to global economic affairs and development.

The Master’s program in International and Development Economics is specifically tailored for students who hold a main degree in economics, business administration, or other social sciences with a strong focus on economics.

The main objective is to enhance understanding of development economics, which refers to the global economic context in which socio-economic development occurs, as well as the crucial sectors and policy domains that are significant for developing nations. This includes a particular emphasis on agriculture, financial institutions, and public enterprises.

The curriculum seeks to encompass both the fundamental theoretical debates and specific contemporary instances of strategies, programs, and initiatives to comprehend the challenges involved in designing present development policies.

Regarding DAAD

The DAAD provides support for the education of professionals from developing and recently industrialized nations through its postgraduate programs that specifically target development. Local professionals who have received specialized training and possess strong networks with international partners are essential for successfully attaining sustainable development in their respective countries.

These specialists represent the most promising prospect for fostering a more prosperous future characterized by diminished poverty and enhanced education and healthcare for all individuals. Foreign graduates from developing and newly industrialized nations, regardless of their field, who have a minimum of two years of professional experience, are eligible for scholarships.

These scholarships offer the chance to undertake a postgraduate or master’s program at a German university that is either government-funded or government-recognized. Occasionally, individuals may have the opportunity to obtain doctoral degrees in Germany, which enables them to acquire a university certificate (Master’s or PhD).

The Importance of Studying MIDE

1. Advancing sustainable growth in an insufficient world

The Master’s Degree in International and Development Economics (MIDE) at HTW Berlin is a program that spans 18 months and aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to engage in the challenging and important field of development work. Students get a comprehensive and practical comprehension of the economic and political global framework in which emerging countries are incorporated.

The comprehensive theoretical and methodological education offered to MIDE graduates enables them to acquire a deep comprehension of the socio-economic methodologies and theories essential for tackling pressing issues in developing nations. Students have the opportunity to customize their professional profile by selecting from a diverse selection of elective courses.

2. The educational institution maintains rigorous academic criteria while also emphasizing practical and hands-on teaching methods.

Graduates of MIDE possess the required skills and knowledge to excel in positions within development cooperation or international organizations. MIDE offers a diverse range of courses, including “Agricultural Economics in Less Developed Countries (LDCs)” and “Project Planning and Evaluation,”  to give students a comprehensive education. Through the integration of academic knowledge and practical competence, graduates possess the ability to analyze the existing obstacles of development and devise effective methods to address them.
