The University of British Columbia (UBC) allocates more than $30 million per year to provide awards, scholarships, and other forms of financial assistance to undergraduate international students. This is done as a way of recognizing the academic success of exceptional students from all over the world.

Campuses of UBC

The two primary campuses of UBC are located in the Okanagan Valley, in Kelowna and Vancouver.

With more than 80 training locations around British Columbia, UBC offers clinical education to students in the Faculty of Medicine. In addition, the University of British Columbia (UBC) Robson Square, the UBC Learning Exchange, and the UBC Center for Digital Media are all located in Vancouver.

The two regional bases of UBC, located in India and Hong Kong, foster local ties and strengthen collaborations in the areas of learning, research, and capacity building.

General Eligibility Criteria:

The places you attended high school, the UBC campus you intend to attend, and the degree you are applying for all affect the requirements for admission. You will need to meet additional requirements if you are a mature student or if you have completed some post-secondary schooling.

Students in Canadian high schools

Transfer students to universities and colleges

Transfer students from all universities and colleges in the world are accepted. If you have finished two years of CEGEP or are a post-secondary student, review the criteria.

Students in Advanced Placement

Your grades may be merged with an authorized high school curriculum if you complete AP courses to satisfy the UBC entry requirements.

Students pursuing their Baccalaureate abroad

You have different prerequisites for general admissions and degree-specific coursework if you are working toward the International Baccalaureate diploma.

Mature Students

You can be qualified as a mature student if you have not attended formal schooling for at least four years and can show that you have a strong potential for academic success through extracurricular activities and accomplishments.

Proficiency in English

At UBC, English is the main language of instruction. You have to show that you speak English, at least at a minimal level, to be admitted. This criterion can be fulfilled in nine different ways. For those who haven’t yet, academic English development programs are available.

University of British Scholarships Categories

UBC Okanagan International Welcome Award

A $5,000 grant is allocated to the first-year tuition of overseas students at UBC Okanagan as part of the UBC Okanagan Overseas Welcome Award.

This prize will be given to all overseas applicants to UBC who name a UBC Okanagan degree as their top option, are admitted, and enroll in their first-choice program at UBC Okanagan. Your first year’s full-time tuition at the Okanagan campus can be used to your award of $5,000. 50% of the award will be used toward tuition for Term 1 and 50% of the award will be used toward tuition for term 2.

The purpose of the award is to welcome overseas students to the Okanagan campus and assist them in having the best possible start to their time at UBC Okanagan.

Qualifications

  • For the International Welcome Award to be given to you, you have to:
  • Be admitted to UBC Okanagan and enroll in your first-choice degree.
  • Be an international first-year student.
  • Choose the UBC Okanagan degree listed as your first option.

How to apply

This scholarship will be immediately deducted from your tuition expenses if you are admitted to UBC for your first-choice UBC Okanagan degree.

UBC Vantage One scholarships and awards

Academically gifted international candidates whose English language ability falls short of UBC’s requirements for direct admission can apply to the university’s Vantage One program.

You are qualified for UBC Vantage One prizes if you are a new student. Academic accomplishment, intellectual promise, and extracurricular or community service are the criteria used to grant these scholarships. A few of the scholarships also take financial needs into account. Among the UBC Vantage One honors are:

  • International Major Entrance Scholarship for Vantage One
  • Vantage One Entrance Award
  • Vantage One Excellence Award

There are differences in the deadlines, application procedures, and qualifying standards for the various UBC Vantage One awards.
