This prize is categorized into five distinct categories, each of which offers annual support exclusively for tuition expenses.

- Doctoral students are eligible for an annual stipend of up to 40,000 RMB.
- Master’s students are eligible for an annual stipend of up to 30,000 RMB.
- Â Undergraduate students are eligible for an annual stipend of up to 20,000 RMB.
- Senior scholars and long-term language students are eligible for an annual stipend of up to 10,000 RMB.
- Exchange students are eligible for an annual stipend of up to 5,000 RMB.
2. The Chinese Government Scholarship
The Chinese University Program Award is a prestigious scholarship offered by the Chinese government.
This scholarship is a comprehensive program that offers three different levels of support to cover full, half, or partial tuition costs for studying at any of the 221 Chinese universities that are part of the program. Furthermore, this award provides the recipients with the benefit of complimentary accommodation, as well as a potential monthly allowance of up to 3,000 RMB for master’s students or 3,500 RMB for Ph.D. students.
Qualification for Chinese university program scholarship.
- Eligibility is limited to individuals who are not residents of China.
- Restricted to students pursuing graduate studies.
- Demonstrating language proficiency by attaining HSK4 (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi Level IV) in the Chinese Proficiency Test is highly recommended, although it may be waived if the university provides English courses.
- Applicants must be below 35 years old for the master’s program and below 40 years old for the Ph.D. program.

3. The CAS-TWAS Ph.D. The Fellowship Program is a program that offers fellowships for Ph.D. studies.
The fellowship is a joint initiative between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the World Academy of Sciences. It offers financial support for a duration of up to four years to 200 individuals who are undertaking Ph.D. studies in China. This fellowship offers a monthly stipend of either 7,000 or 8,000 RMB to pay living expenses, including health insurance and accommodation. Additionally, it covers other expenses such as school fees, application fees, and visa fees.
4. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) offers CSC Scholarships.
The China Scholarship Council provides a specialist scholarship for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students with a specific interest in meteorology. The Chinese Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization, has acknowledged the significance of studying and researching the worldwide climate and environment. The WMO–CSC Scholarship provides partial scholarships to non-Chinese students at all academic levels who are studying majors in the following fields:

Requirements for China Scholarship Council eligibility
To qualify, applicants must
- The applicant must possess citizenship of a nation other than the People’s Republic of China and must be in a state of good mental and physical health.
- To apply for an undergraduate program, the applicant must have a high school diploma or its equivalent, be under the age of 25, and have a strong academic record.
- To apply for a master’s program, the applicant must have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, be under the age of 35, and have a strong academic record.
- Also, to apply for a PhD program, the applicant must have a master’s degree or its equivalent, demonstrate academic excellence, and be under the age of 40.
- Additionally, to be eligible for a general scholar program, an applicant must have a high school diploma or a higher level of education and be under the age of 45 at the time of application.
- To be eligible for a senior scholar program, an applicant must possess a master’s degree or hold the position of associate professor or higher. Additionally, the applicant must be under the age of 50 at the time of application.
- To be eligible for a Chinese-taught undergraduate or general scholar program (excluding Chinese language majors), applicants must have completed the HSK (Level 3).
- To be eligible for a Chinese-taught senior scholar program, applicants must have completed the HSK (Level 3).
- To be eligible for a Chinese-taught postgraduate program, applicants must have completed the HSK (Level 4).
- To apply for a program taught in a language other than Chinese, an applicant must fulfill the admission standards of their preferred university, including language competence and academic ability, among other criteria.
Required Documentation for China Scholarship Council Application
Application Form (available in either Chinese or English):
The Application Form will be generated immediately upon successful completion through the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS). The instructions for the online application can be found in the next chapter.
A Scanned Copy of Passport Information Page:
The applicant must provide a legible scanned copy of the passport’s information page, which must have an expiration date later than March 1, 2023. If the present passport’s validity does not fulfill the specified criterion, kindly obtain a new passport before applying. Suppose an applicant is unable to apply for a passport before submitting their application due to valid reasons. In that case, they may provide documentation or evidence that includes the applicant’s full English name, sex, nationality, and date of birth. This can be done with the approval of the Embassy.
Applicants must provide a notarized photocopy of their Diploma and Certificate of Highest Education.
A present university student applying shall provide the certificate of projected graduation or student status given by their university. Documents written in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by certified translations in either Chinese or English.
Applicants’ academic transcripts:
Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by certified translations in either Chinese or English.
Certificates of Language Proficiency:
Applicants for programs taught in Chinese must provide authentic HSK reports that meet the specific Chinese proficiency standards. Applicants for language-taught programs other than English must submit language competency certificates, such as IELTS or TOEFL reports, as per the universities’ criteria.
Required documentation for admission of applicants:
 Applicants who wish to pursue a master’s or doctoral degree, or apply as general or senior scholars, must provide admission documents issued by the universities they are applying to. The admission documents consist of an admission notice, a pre-admission letter, an invitation from instructors, and other relevant materials. Applicants who possess admission documents will be given precedence in securing the Chinese Government Scholarship.
A Study Plan or Research Proposal in either Chinese or English:
 The required word count for undergraduate students is a minimum of 200 words, while non-degree students are expected to write at least 500 words. Postgraduate students, on the other hand, are required to submit a minimum of 800 words.
Letters of recommendation:
 Individuals applying for graduate programs or senior scholar programs are required to provide two letters of recommendation in either Chinese or English, specifically from professors or associate professors.
Applicants who are still below the age of 18:
Before enrolling in September 2024, it is necessary to submit the legitimate documents of their legal guardians in China. Applicants have the option to complete the “Contact in China” section via CGSIS. If the individual lacks any contacts or affiliations in China, they can reach out to and complete the necessary paperwork at the Fijian Embassy in China.
Individuals intending to remain in China for a duration beyond 6 months:
Please provide a photocopy of the attached Foreigner Physical Examination Form that has been filled out in English. The original copy should be retained by the applicant. The form is created by the Chinese quarantine administration. The physical examinations must encompass all the elements specified in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records, without the attending physician’s signature, the official hospital stamp, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are considered invalid. Please choose the most suitable time to get a physical examination, as the outcome remains valid for only 6 months.
Report of non-criminal records:
The applicant must provide a current Non-Criminal Record certificate issued by the local public security body, which should be obtained no more than 6 months before applying.
Procedure for Applying to the China Scholarship Council
The following are the steps for applying for the scholarship.
- Access the “CSC Study in China” website and navigate to the “Scholarship Applications for Students” section by clicking on the link
- Create an account by clicking on “CREATE AN ACCOUNT” and then log in using your account credentials.
- Enter personal information. To complete the input of personal details, click on “Application Online” and then select “Edit Personal Details”. Fill in all the required information, validate it, and save the entered data. Upon finishing this step, navigate back to the previous page by selecting the “Finish” button and proceed to input your application details.
