Role: REGIONAL VP HR, AFRICA

Newmont Mining Corporation is one of the biggest gold producers in the world, and its most important properties are in Nevada, Peru, Australia, Ghana, and Suriname.

The Ahafo Mine is in the Brong-Ahafo region, and the Akyem Mine is in the Eastern region. Both are owned by Newmont’s Africa Operations. Ghana is also putting a lot of effort into near-mine exploration and development in order to replace its gold stocks every year. Newmont Africa also has projects in Ethiopia and Morocco that are just getting started.

Our Akyem and Ahafo mines have made major sustainable community development investments in our host communities. The Regional Vice President of Human Resources will work with the regional senior leadership team and the global HR group to move HR initiatives forward and reach the people’s goal of making a place where everyone belongs, thrives, and feels valued. This person with a lot of energy will be in charge of a team of HR professionals and set the direction for HR in the area.

They will be in charge of people strategy and will be able to change the organization’s culture and performance by creating and implementing frameworks, policies, and best practices. This job is also in charge of Technical Training and Camp Services, which include giving crew members a place to stay, a way to get around, and food.

Responsibilities

  • In this job, you will continue to move forward with the HR strategy that is in line with Newmont’s goals.
  • Support the implementation of the regional business plans by making sure all HR processes are working well and using best practices, technology, and ongoing improvement.
  • As a member of the regional leadership team, you should help define and carry out the operational and growth strategies for the area. This includes putting new projects and operations into place.
  • As a member of the global HR leadership team, you should help shape the enterprise’s general HR strategy and make sure that regional and site needs and perspectives are taken into account.
  • Develop, analyze, and put into action new or better HR strategies at the regional and mine-site levels, in line with the strategies, policies, and procedures of the company as a whole.
  • Using a practical approach, find, start, and run HR projects and programs that will have a long-term effect on the business in the region, make sure to involve stakeholders, handle change, and keep things going.
  • Help the regional top management team with HR projects by giving them strategic direction, advice, and a partnership. Help with the long-term plans for the area and the life of the mine. Also, give HR advice and coaching to members of the area team.

Education, Skills, and Experience

The perfect candidate will be honest and trustworthy, have international HR leadership experience, and be technically proficient in all HR areas. Experience at best-in-class capital-intensive, heavy industry multinationals. The Regional Vice President of Human Resources will contribute innovative ideas, commercially savvy insights, meaningful conversation, and measured strategic guidance.

They will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Led country and/or regional HR administration for organizations with multiple sites and functions, working with top leaders and corporate HR leaders.
  • Experience Creating and implementing an HR plan for a business unit or region
  • Built and kept good working partnerships with executives, senior management, and asset leaders. Be thought of as a reliable business partner and guide.
  • Built and kept good relationships with labor groups, communities, and other outside partners. Known for being able to handle conflicts well. History of getting agreements done and handling partnerships with unions well.
  • Partner as the main point of contact for the business, region, or division head
  • Well-rounded business understanding and strong business sense, as well as the ability to help the team in ways other than HR and spot risks across the region.
  • Be able to show a strong link between production, profit and loss, operating margins, and business impacts from both abroad and at home.
  • Developed and put into place short-term and long-term HR strategies, policies, programs, and projects with supporting infrastructure and resources, such as HRIS systems.
  • Aligning the HR strategy with the business in a way that has worked in the past and improved the performance of the company.
