Emory University admissions without tuition fee for 2024–25
Emory University provides restricted fee waivers to applicants who can demonstrate financial hardship and who have taken part in specific programs aimed at preparing students for graduate study.
Concerning Emory University
In 1919, Emory University established the Graduate School as a separate entity, and in 1948, it granted its inaugural PhD to a chemistry student. Since then, Emory’s graduate program has advanced significantly, and in 2009, we were renamed in honor of Dr. James T. Laney, who served as the university’s president from 1977 to 1993.
In more than 40 programs spanning the humanities, social sciences, biological and natural sciences, public health, nursing, and business, the Laney Graduate School now grants PhDs and Masters degrees. Our graduate students collaborate with renowned academics and researchers to address today’s difficult issues and further the common good in almost every field of study at Emory.

Requirements for Scholarship Qualifications
Fee Waiver to Applicants from Qualified Programs
Applicants who have participated in one or more of a list of programs designed to prepare students for graduate study can waive our application fee.
PROCESS
The process for waiving the fee is simple: in our application for admission, simply check the program(s) you have participated in. Once you have checked, the system will automatically waive your application fee.
We receive confirmation of your participation from these organizations directly, and to process applications efficiently, we will confirm after your application is submitted.
Fee Waiver for Applicants in Need of Financial Assistance
A restricted quantity of fee waivers are available to applicants who demonstrate financial hardship.
QUALIFY
We anticipate that you must meet the US Department of Education’s criteria of “low income” to be eligible for this waiver.
How can you apply?
You will be required to attach supporting evidence for your financial hardship claim. This record-keeping may consist of:
- A confirmation letter or memo confirming your receipt of need-based financial help from the financial aid office of your present school or the school from which you graduated within the past year;
- An ETS letter confirming that you were granted a reduction in your GRE fees; or
- Proof that you are currently unemployed, as certified by a state unemployment department
- International applicants may attach data about exchange rates or other economic factors that demonstrate how the application cost would be unfeasible for them.
Please take note that you should not upload any documents that include private or sensitive personal information, like your phone number, social security number, or other sensitive data.
