ACDI/VOCA is a non-profit international development organization with its headquarters in Washington, D.C. It designs and implements technical and management solutions in agriculture, economic growth, and resilience to support economic growth and social inclusion.

Job Description

USAID will pay for a youth program in Ghana that ACDI/VOCA needs a Deputy Chief of Party for. Through youth-led and youth-serving organizations, among other things, the program will improve the socioeconomic status of young people in northern Ghana. This will help them make better choices in life and have an impact on policy. The program will focus on the needs of girls, people with disabilities, and other groups that don’t have as much.

The Deputy Chief of Party will help the Chief of Party reach project goals and objectives by giving expert advice and direction when needed. They will be in charge of making the program’s strategy and putting it into action. They will also make sure that youth are involved in all program events. The job is based in Tamale, Ghana, and the program is expected to start at the end of 2023.

Responsibilities

  • Using a positive youth development (PYD) method, help come up with strategic plans, annual and quarterly work plans, and other deliverables that are in line with USAID’s rules.
  • Give feedback on the performance tracking plan so that success can be measured and the model’s assumptions can be checked.
  • Help program staff and partners with PYD, meaningful youth engagement, private sector involvement, and local capacity building by giving them technical advice and keeping an eye on them.
  • Provide general technical oversight and supervision of Result team leads, including in areas like youth economic opportunities, education, health care, civic involvement, and sensitivity to conflict.
  • Support the development of strong M&E mechanisms, program monitoring tools, and efficient systems to make sure high-quality execution.
  • Prepare reports and papers for USAID, national governments, the ACDI/VOCA home office, and partner organizations.
  • Work closely with subawardees and private sector groups in the area to offer technical and organizational help.
  • Make sure that technical help and activities work well together.
  • In close collaboration with local partners and stakeholders, provide strategic oversight and help create PYD approaches, activities, and work plans.
  • Create partnerships with neighborhood groups, private businesses, and government agencies to pool resources and give young people more chances.
  • Represent ACDI/VOCA with partners and key stakeholders; keep good partnerships with USAID, local authorities, and the country office team.
  • Serve as the activity’s main point of contact for questions about how things work and what they mean when the Chief of Party is not around.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in sociology, international development, youth development, education, economics, or a related area is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience leading projects of similar size and scope with increasing responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical and operational teams on youth-focused projects, including experience in youth workforce development, PYD, education, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading a team and working on difficult tasks.
  • Proven experience coordinating with other donors, government institutions, and private sector organizations and working well with local government peers and local organizations.
  • Experience leading teams and projects that involve youth in useful ways, such as giving them a chance to lead and getting them involved in the design, implementation, and MEL processes.
  • It’s best to have worked in Ghana before.
  • English fluency is a must.
