5 African countries with best and sustained electricity

Many countries across the African continent are faced with poor access to electricity. This development problem means the citizens are unable to access electricity for household use such as lighting,  charging phones, or any electrical gadget.

FACTORS RESPONSIBLE FOR POOR ENERGY ACCESS IN AFRICA

  • To begin with, the Lack of a proper regulatory framework
  • Secondly, Not investing on the international front
  • Also, Africans have not been able to build up country-wide infrastructure over decades
  • Lastly, The difficulty surrounding the bankability of power projects.

CAN THESE PROBLEMS BE SOLVED?

Yes, problems exist for solutions. For Africans to have a proper regulatory framework, there should be regular distribution and collection of electricity bills,  when increasing tariffs, it should be targeted towards large organizations or medium size consumers first. There should also be a way to detect if a meter has been tampered with.

The Africans can improve upon their electricity access by adopting other ways of generating power, rather than relying on every household being put on a centralized grid. That era of having everyone on the national grid has not worked for decades and that is not going to change anytime soon.
