These foods contain vitamins and minerals whereas others contain a chemical property called galactagogue- this property aids in the production of breast milk. Here is a look at some foods thought to assist in boosting the supply of breast milk.
FOODS THAT BOOST MILK SUPPLY
1 . FENNEL

It is a crunchy seed with a white, sweet liquorice flavoured bulb that is believed to be a milk booster. The plant is from the Mediterranean and adds flavour to almost any food. The plant is said to have some oestrogen compound that enables you to produce more milk if you are a breastfeeding mother. You can use the plant by tossing it in your soups, stews or other recipes. It also pairs well with roasted chicken or fish.
2 . OATS

They are very nutritious for breastfeeding moms. Whether it is been eaten as milk, meal or cookie, it helps lactating mothers produce more milk. Oats contain a lot of dietary fibre than any other whole grains.
3 . GARLIC

It is a very healthy addition to various meals. It is also believed to have a lactating compound that helps women who are breastfeeding to produce more milk. The strong flavour of the garlic goes into the breast milk. While some babies like the taste of the garlic flavoured milk, others do not like it. Studies have shown that babies who nurse on the garlic flavoured milk tend to nurse longer.
4 . DARK LEAFY GREENS

Other foods that have the potential of increasing breast milk production are Red beets, Sesame seeds, Poppy seeds, Caraway seeds, Anise seeds, Coriander, papaya, fenugreek, barley and other examples.
