ROLE: Economic Transformation Advisor

Job Introduction

We are looking for an Economic Transformation Advisor to work in central government institutions to speed up the delivery of a number of new programs that the government just started and that are meant to help the country change its structure. The Economic Transformation Advisor will work with government counterparts and other key stakeholders to help develop the private sector.

They will do this by creating economic and market analyses, finding and promoting bankable investment opportunities in high-growth productive sectors, and helping the government design effective delivery mechanisms that will speed up the implementation of major bilateral and multilateral programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze data, set benchmarks, and give advice on strategic and creative areas and sectors (e.g., sector development, investor checklists in high-growth sectors, finance, climate, etc.);
  • Help the government improve its market-driven industrial policies and build up important businesses that can help the country’s economy grow.
  • As needed, help TBI colleagues and relevant counterparts with data analysis, building a body of proof, and dealing with bottlenecks;
  • Improve the government’s ability to plan, coordinate, and keep track of long-term goals;
  • Lead the tracking and reporting of different donor/DFI projects and portfolios, making sure they are on track with project requirements and deadlines;
  • To finish jobs on time and correctly, use a strategic plan to check on progress, make status reports, and, if necessary, think about other ways to do things.
  • Build and keep trusting relationships with government and private sector players as well as development partners, including through targeted communication activities;
  • Keep the quality of the product in line with the project’s goals and what the government wants;
  • Prepare for project risks and suggest ways to deal with them;
  • Help the TBI Country Director and other team members with different strategy projects, such as helping local analysts improve their skills and doing other tasks.

Person Specification

We want an outstanding person with a lot of enthusiasm, drive, resilience, a “can-do” attitude, and the ability to consistently get things done in a fast-paced environment. We want someone with a proven track record of leadership and analysis in the public or private sector, with a solid background in public/civil services worldwide, strategy consulting, project management, and/or relevant industry experience.

The requirements that should be met are:

  • The person who fills the role must be able to move to, live in, and work in Togo;
  • Significant experience in economic development, related program management, and/or management consulting;
  • Previous experience working with African governments to grow the private sector, either in the private sector, for a consulting firm, or as a partner;
  • Excellent problem-solving and analysis skills, including a good understanding of how to use tools for data analysis, strategy planning, and project management;
  • Being able to start things on your own and work alone, as well as being a good team player.
  • Ability to think carefully and turn those thoughts into plans that can be carried out;
  • Results-driven, organized, able to stick with projects until the end, and willing to take the initiative and go the extra mile;
  • Strong critical skills that can be used in a variety of situations;
  • Good dialogue, writing, and public speaking skills;
  • The confidence, knowledge, communication skills, and credibility to work at a high level in government and TBI;
  • Must have a strong sense of ethics, caution, and persistence;
  • It is very important to have lived and worked in a growing country;
  • Expertise in important project areas and advice for the public sector are both good things to have;
  • You must be able to speak English and French well.
