Study In USA: Lakehead University Graduate Scholarship 2024

In addition to a variety of area possibilities, the Economics program provides instruction in fundamental courses in economic theory.

We provide a non-thesis alternative, which is typical of most graduate programs in economics offered in North America. Eight half-courses plus a lengthy research report make up this choice. A lot of students enroll in six courses in their first year, three in the autumn and three in the winter; they then take two courses in the fall of their second year and finish their extended paper in the winter.

MA Economics Co-operative Program Option

The co-op option is designed to give students the chance to use the knowledge and skills they have learned in the classroom while also gaining fresh perspectives and educational experiences. Two four-month work terms that are optionally consecutive after the first two study terms come next.

Students must finish at least six half-courses from the non-thesis alternatives to advance to the co-op option. The academic standing of the student will determine the department’s recommendation for the work terms.

NOTE: Within six terms, or two years, of continuous enrollment, students in the non-thesis program must finish all requirements.

To fulfill the requirements of the co-op option, students must complete two extra four-month work terms after their first two terms of study. This will extend the co-op option’s program duration to eight terms, which consists of six terms of study and two work terms.

Masters Admission Requirements

Candidates for admission must demonstrate their scholarly accomplishments and be graduates of an accredited university, college, or institute. Degree candidates must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, with at least second-class standing (B) based on their last 20 half courses, or its equivalent, unless specifically indicated in the admission requirements of a specific program.

The courses taken and academic status of an applicant with a degree outside of the discipline for which admission is sought will be taken into consideration. To satisfy the requirements for admission, an undergraduate may need to complete a qualifying year. It is not possible to apply courses completed during a qualifying year for graduate degree credit.

Fulfilling the minimal prerequisites does not ensure admittance. There will be no candidates accepted if the academic unit does not recommend admission. The Office of Graduate Studies will notify all applicants in writing of their acceptance status.

Requirements for Specific Programs

The following prerequisites also apply, in addition to the usual entrance criteria for Master’s programs:

  • An Honors B.A. (Economics) or an equivalent four-year degree with at least second-class standing.
  • It may be necessary for candidates to take courses beyond those needed for the Master’s degree to make up for any inadequacies. The department will make this decision at its discretion.

Graduate Financial Aid

We at Lakehead University understand how crucial financial aid is for postgraduate students.

The various funding possibilities that are accessible consist of:

To find out more about your choices for graduate funding, get in touch with the Graduate Funding Officer at the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Requirements for Graduate Awards

Academic merit is the basis for graduate scholarships. Graduate bursaries are awarded based on financial necessity, though they may also be awarded based on merit. When an application is called for to be eligible for an award, only students who have filed the relevant application before the deadline will be taken into consideration. Applications that arrive late or are not complete will not be accepted. Only those who are accepted will receive notification.

Scholarship, award, and bursary recipients need to be registered to be eligible for funding. Any remaining amount on the student’s account will be added to their graduate awards. Awards are only given to students when their fees have been paid in full. The remaining amount of the overpayment will only be reimbursed to students who have credit account balances. These prizes’ overpayment reimbursements will be given out at the end of September, January, and May each year.

Documents Needed for Applications

Candidates for admission must demonstrate their scholarly accomplishments and be graduates of an authorized university, college, or institute. Domestic degree students must have a four-year bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with at least (B) based on their last 20 half courses or equivalent unless specifically specified in the entry requirements of a specific program. International applicants should ideally have an overall standing of at least Second Class (Upper Division).

Fulfilling the minimal prerequisites for admission does not ensure acceptance. Once the program has informed all applicants of their admissions decision, the Faculty of Graduate Studies will notify each applicant in writing. For the most up-to-date information, applicants are advised to frequently check their Lakehead University email and application site.
