The University of Sussex Climate Leaders Fellowship is seeking students interested in climate studies to apply for this year’s fellowship to support their advanced studies. The article examines the prerequisites necessary for a candidate to qualify for the scholarship.

Sussex aims to become one of the most sustainable institutions globally and to lead in showcasing and advocating for environmental, social, and economic sustainability at all levels.

Sussex is involved in the COP26 scholarship programme and will provide a minimum of five £3,000 scholarships to new students in 2024. Accepted candidates receive mentoring assistance and are allowed to help organise a yearly event aimed at involving and educating students and the broader community in addressing the climate emergency.

The University of Sussex, a public research institution in East Sussex, England, was founded in the 1960s. It offers around 500 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.

Ten schools, such as the School of Global Studies, School of Life Sciences, School of Psychology, and the Doctoral School, provide courses in subjects like accounting and finance, biochemistry, filmmaking, and art history. Students have the option to pursue several degrees, such as BA, BSc, BEng, MA, MRes, MSc, LLM, PhD, and others.

Requirements for The University of Sussex Climate Leaders Scholarship Application

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for this scholarship:

  • Must be a UK student categorised as ‘Home’ for fees and have received an offer for an appropriate undergraduate, Master’s, or PhD programme.
  • Demonstrate a proven history of being an environmental influencer and effecting tangible change in response to the climate catastrophe.
  • Commit to collaborating with the university and local community to promote pledges to achieve net zero and address the climate catastrophe.

You are ineligible for this award if you plan to pursue any of the following:

  • Certificates and Diplomas (including PGCE)
  • Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) courses
  • Master of Arts in Development Studies
  • Early Childhood Education (with Early Childhood Teacher certification)
  • MA in Globalisation, Business, and Development
  • Master of Arts in Governance, Development, and Public Policy
  • MA in Power, Participation, and Social Change
  • Poverty and Development MA
  • Social work degrees are eligible for the NHS bursary.
  • Web-based courses
  • Direct teaching courses offered by schools
  • Master’s programmes are supported by research bodies such as ESRC 1+3 funding.

Eligible applicants can use this application to apply for the Climate Leaders Scholarship. Before applying, you need to have been accepted into an undergraduate programme at Sussex and must fulfil the specified eligibility requirements to be eligible for the scholarship.
