Benefits of the Scholarship:

The NSP offers substantial financial assistance in the following ways:

  • For students: A sizeable 620 EUR monthly stipend is awarded.
  • A monthly stipend of 1025.50 EUR is awarded to recipients who are doctoral students.
  • Monthly allowances for artists and academics vary from 1025.50 to 1470 EUR, depending on experience and degrees.

Qualifications:

NSP 2024 Eligibility and Scope

The NSP provides accommodations for:

  • Students: enrolled in a master’s degree or an equivalent program at a university outside of Slovakia, with at least 2.5 years of study completed; stays of one to two semesters are permitted.
  • PhD Students: Those enrolled in postsecondary education or doing scientific training outside of Slovakia are eligible for stays of one to ten months.
  • University Teachers, Researchers, and Artists: International scholars and artists are especially invited to Slovakia for teaching, research, or artistic engagements; durations ranging from one to ten months are possible.

Not supported by the National Scholarship Program are:

  • foreign students and Ph.D. candidates admitted to Slovakia for full-degree higher education (bachelor, master’s, and doctoral studies), as well as those enrolled in Slovakia for full-degree higher education currently and desiring NSP funding for their studies there;
  • University instructors, researchers, and artists who do not hold a Ph.D. degree (or its equivalent) but who, by the application deadline, have worked as university professors, researchers, or artists for more than four years (Ph.D. studies count for work experience).
  • But in unique circumstances deserving of special consideration—particularly when taking into account circumstances brought on by force majeure—the scholarship program administrator may, after contacting the selection committee.
  • Candidates without a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) and with more than four but not more than seven years of work experience should also be accepted as eligible applicants. However, these candidates may only be awarded a scholarship in the amount corresponding to those without a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) and with less than four years of experience.
  • Foreign candidates who have spent 15 or more months (in total) on Slovak Republic territory within the 36 months prior to the application deadline

How to Apply:

The application process must be completed online at www.scholarships.sk for applicants. To avoid possible system overloads, it is highly advised to finish the application well in advance of the deadline. Depending on the applicant type, different documents may be required. Still, generally speaking, these consist of a curriculum vitae, a motivation letter, a thorough study or research plan, and any relevant letters of invitation or confirmation from Slovak universities.

Selection Standards:

The applicant’s caliber, the necessity and substance of the suggested stay, and the NSP’s financial limitations serve as the foundation for the selection process. It entails a careful evaluation of the applicant’s resume, the importance of the project they are proposing, and the general caliber of the application.
