Study In Netherlands: VU Amsterdam Fully Funded Scholarships 2024–25

Application submissions are currently being accepted for the 2024 VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) in Amsterdam, which is available to students from all around the world. The VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) provides exceptional prospective students from outside the EU or EEA with the one-of-a-kind opportunity to earn a Master’s degree from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

About the VU Amsterdam Scholarships

Free University of Amsterdam, which is located in the Netherlands, will serve as the conference’s host institution.

Programs leading to a Master’s Degree that are instructed in English and are available through the university Level of study.

Students who are not citizens of an EU or EEA country are the intended audience.

The value and components of the scholarship include the following:

The VUFP scholarship will cover all of the associated tuition costs. The VUFP scholarship does not provide any further monetary assistance toward the cost of either education or living expenses.

A Master’s degree program that is either one or two years in length is eligible for a VUFP scholarship award. If the student has completed all twelve credits in the first year of the two-year Master’s degree, the scholarship will be carried over into the second year of the program.

When you apply for the VUFP award, your information will also be submitted for consideration for the NL award. There is no requirement for a separate application at this time.  If it is approved, the Housing and Subsidy Program (HSP) will contribute to the costs of living in the amount of either 5,000 EUR or 10,000 EUR for one year. Only the first year of your chosen educational program is eligible to receive financial support from the Netherlands Scholarship.

General ELigibilty Criteria:

• Because you do not possess a passport issued by a member state of the EU or EEA, you will not be able to take advantage of the reduced tuition rate.
• You are not a citizen of the Netherlands; your nationality is another.
• You can demonstrate that you are an excellent student with a GPA that is equivalent to an eight in the Dutch system.
• You have been conditionally or unconditionally accepted into the first year of a full-time English-taught Master’s program at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam beginning in September 2024.  Please take notice that students who will begin their studies in February are not eligible to apply for VUFP and that joint programs in which VU Amsterdam does not handle the admission procedure are also not eligible for VUFP.
• The degree you have that qualifies you for admission was not earned in the Netherlands at the institution to which you are applying.
• Before starting your Master’s degree, you will not be required to complete any kind of preparatory program.

VU Amsterdam Scholarship Coverage

Talented prospective non-EU/EEA students have a unique opportunity to study for a master’s degree at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam thanks to the VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP). VU Amsterdam has pledged to provide roughly one million euros for the recruitment of exceptional and highly motivated students.

Details regarding the required GPA

Our grade conversion is based on information gathered from reputable organizations like ECCTIS (UK). Based on grade distribution statistics—that is, the frequency with which a particular grade is awarded—the Dutch and international grades are compared. A student who succeeds in one nation will be considered successful in another thanks to this system.

We can guarantee that every application is handled equally and fairly in this way. Understanding that comparing grades is more complicated than just figuring out that an 8 out of 10 is equal to, say, 80%, 16/20, or 3.2/4 is crucial.

Furthermore, due to Dutch grading culture, a grade of 8 or above is seen as extremely high and thus relatively uncommon in the Netherlands. This indicates that a relatively small percentage of pupils will receive a GPA of at least eight out of ten upon graduation.

 VUFP and two-year courses

The VUFP scholarship is available for master’s programs lasting one or two years. If a student completes a two-year Master’s degree with 100% of the required ECTS, the scholarship will only be renewed for the second year.

The VUFP scholarship for 2024–2025 is not open to students who are already enrolled in a two-year Master’s program and who were not granted the scholarship in 2023–2024.

The amount of the scholarship

The sole expense covered by the VUFP scholarship is tuition. It doesn’t offer any extra money for living expenses like rent, food, or insurance or for studying. Note that you will need to be able to pay for these living expenditures out of your pocket.

How To Apply?

Before you may apply for the VUFP scholarship, it is important to note that you will first need to have submitted an application for the Master’s program and then been conditionally admitted.

Students have until the 1st of December 2023 (with effect from the 1st of October 2023) to register for a Master’s program through Studielink. After that, your application for the VUFP, along with any supporting documentation, must be submitted in your VU dashboard before the 1st of February 2024 (beginning on the 1st of November 2023) at the latest.
