City University of Hong Kong is currently accepting applications for scholarships from both local and international students, regardless of their location or whether they are studying in Hong Kong or overseas. These scholarships provide an annual chance for students to pursue their studies in Hong Kong.

Upon successful admission, the University awards entrance grants to exceptional students who have demonstrated exceptional academic and/or non-academic accomplishments. Separate applications are not required. Entrance scholarships are accessible to both domestic and international students.

The University provides a range of admission grants for non-local students who have outstanding academic achievements and are accepted into full-time government-funded undergraduate programs. The University will select exceptional candidates for entrance scholarships based on their academic merit after they have been admitted. Applicants are not required to submit additional scholarship applications.

The scholarships offered by the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies

(Only relevant for students receiving government funding)

The objective of the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Scholarships is to acknowledge and incentivize students who exhibit exceptional academic achievements. Eligibility for the Scholarship is limited to students who are currently enrolled in their MPhil/Ph.D. program and have completed at least one year of study. The Scholarship is a non-recurring monetary grant, and recipients will get a certificate of the award given by the institution.

Award for Exceptional Academic Achievement

The goal of the Outstanding Academic Performance Award for research students is to acknowledge and honor students who have demonstrated exceptional academic excellence in their research endeavors. Eligibility for the grant is limited to research degree students who have completed a minimum of one full year of MPhil/Ph.D. studies and are currently within their designated study period. The award consists of a single monetary payment and recipients will get a certificate of recognition issued by the institution.

Exemplary Research Thesis Awards

The primary objective of the Outstanding Research Thesis Awards is to acknowledge and incentivize research students who have produced a thesis of exceptional caliber and accomplishment in their respective research fields. The school will identify the theses that meet the award criteria and send them to the relevant Departments/Schools. These Departments/Schools will be asked to confirm if the theses are suitable for the award. Upon receiving confirmation from the Departments/Schools, the pupils in question will be awarded the grant.

The Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Doctoral Research Award

The objective of the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Outstanding Doctoral Research Award is to acknowledge outstanding achievements by Ph.D. graduates and to promote the pursuit of excellence in research and scholarly writing. Only recipients of the Outstanding Research Thesis prize will be qualified to vie for the prize. Every recipient will be granted an award certificate issued by the educational institution together with a single cash reward of HK$20,000.

Application criteria for scholarships at City University of Hong Kong

• The required materials for your application are given in the “Supporting Documents” section of the online application. Take note of the following guidelines when drafting the necessary paperwork.
• Before submitting your application, kindly upload the necessary supporting documents about your academic and/or professional qualifications, including academic transcripts, award certificates, examination results, and English test scores. Non-academic documents, such as the HKID card, are not required to be supplied.
• Submitted papers will not be returned.
• Official certified translations must be provided for transcripts and certificates that are not in English.
• It is incumbent upon you, including CityU students, to furnish comprehensive information to expedite the assessment of your application. Failure to provide the necessary information may cause a delay in the processing of the application.
• Selection decisions will mostly rely on the qualifications indicated in your application. Supplementary information and papers submitted to the University after the start of the selection process may or may not be taken into account, depending on the decision of the appropriate department
• Upon request by the University, original documentation, such as CityU qualifications and public examination results, must be given for verification at a later time. Providing incorrect or misleading information or failing to provide the original document for verification may result in disqualification of the admission application and any offer or enrollment issued will be revoked. No refunds will be given for any fees paid.
