About the scholarship program

The University of Ghana, along with seven other universities and research institutions in sub-Saharan Africa, including Burkina Faso’s National Institute of Public Health, Ethiopia’s Addis Continental Institute of Public Health, Nigeria’s University of Ibadan, South Africa’s University of KwaZulu-Natal, Tanzania’s Africa Academy for Public Health and University of Dodoma, and Uganda’s Makerere University, as well as two German institutions, Heidelberg University and Technical University of Munich, is currently carrying out a multi-country study called “Research Network for Design and Evaluation of Adolescent Health Interventions and Policies in Sub-Saharan Africa (DASH).” This study focuses on adolescent health interventions and aims to develop and assess policies in the region.

The primary objective of DASH is to enhance and enhance the health of adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa through population-based intervention and policy research, with a focus on long-term outcomes. The project centers on three areas of health for adolescents and young adults, specifically (a) sexual and reproductive health, (b) nutrition and physical activity, and (c) mental health and violence. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research financially supports the Research Networks for Health Innovations in Sub-Saharan Africa (RHISSA), which includes the DASH partnership as a component.

The study is being conducted in Ghana in collaboration with the Dodowa Health Research Center of the Ghana Health Service. The primary objective of DASH is to enhance the capabilities of young and up-and-coming scientists by providing them with postgraduate training.

The School of Public Health at the University of Ghana is accepting applications from eligible Ghanaians for full-time master’s (12 months) and PhD (48 months) fellowships. These fellowships have a specific focus on adolescent health.
