Concerning the Heinrich Böll Foundation

The goals that guide the ideas and actions of the Heinrich Böll Foundation are to secure peace through conflict prevention in crisis zones, uphold human rights and promote democracy, prevent the destruction of the global ecosystem, advance gender equality, and protect individual freedom from excessive state and economic power. Being a think tank for green ideas and initiatives, we have close relations to the German Green Party (Alliance 90/The Greens). We are a member of a global network that includes well over 100 partner projects in around 60 countries.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation fosters an atmosphere of intellectual transparency while operating autonomously. We currently have 34 overseas operations and maintain a global network. In close collaboration with the sixteen state-level Böll Foundations in each of the federal states of Germany, we provide financial assistance to gifted and politically involved undergraduate and graduate students both domestically and overseas.

Heinrich Böll encouraged citizens to participate in politics, and we joyfully embrace this and hope to encourage others to do the same.
