Qualified individuals from varied academic backgrounds can obtain professional exposure at the AU through the full-time AU internship program.

The Program

Participants will learn about the AU’s operations and improve their personal and professional abilities. Participants can learn in an international setting and acquire hands-on experience in numerous industries.

Interns help implement African Union programs, projects, and activities in the following Departments/Directories:

  • Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (ARBE)
  • Economic Development, Trade, Industry, Mining (ETIM)

  • Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development (HHS)
  • Human Resources Management (HRM)

Requirements

The African Union Commission (AUC) Internship Program requires applicants to meet the following criteria:

  • Candidates must be African Union citizens.
  • Candidates must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program’s final year OR
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a comparable academic discipline;
  • Full-time undergraduate or graduate students in their last year.
  • Learn at least one African Union working language (Arabic, English, French or Portuguese).
  • At selection, be under 32 years old.
  • Maintain the greatest ethical standards.
  • Have never been convicted of a significant crime, barring minor traffic offenses.
  • Internships don’t require experience.

Competencies

  • Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Internet and email skills
  • Interpersonal competence
  • Ability to write and speak
  • Competence in one of the AU officials’ working languages (French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, Spanish, Kiswahili) and fluency in another AU language(s) is an advantage.
