The scholarship offers support for One Young World Conference-level programs in any discipline taught at Canadian universities. The One Young World Summit is taking place in Canada. The Leading the Americas Scholarship 2024 provides a comprehensive funding opportunity for foreign students from the Americas to take part in the summit held in Montreal. This scholarship includes the cost of attending the summit, including access to the event, housing, meals, and round-trip airfare between Montreal and the participant’s international departure airport.

Eligible applicants must exhibit a strong dedication to promoting beneficial transformation, display leadership skills, and tackle urgent local or global problems. Please take note of the following important information:

  • Although the scholarship covers the majority of expenses, visa fees are not included. If you need a visa to enter Canada for the summit, you will be accountable for paying the CAD 165 fee for the visa application, as well as any other charges or travel expenses related to acquiring the visa.

The countries included in the list are Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Requirements for eligibility:

If you satisfy the following conditions, you are eligible for sponsorship:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 30. Although the majority of applicants are typically between the ages of 18 and 30, the One Young World team is open to considering individuals who are older than 30, provided they can demonstrate substantial personal influence, proactivity, and a strong desire to participate. Unfortunately, those who are younger than 18 years old at the time of the summit are not eligible to apply.
  • Exhibit a distinct dedication to promoting beneficial transformation.
  • Demonstrate exemplary leadership skills.
  • Tackle pressing local and/or global concerns through your work.
  • Demonstrate a history of producing influential and inventive concepts.

Please be aware that individuals applying must be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of submitting their application. However, applicants who are over 30 years old may also be taken into consideration if they can provide evidence of their significant influence and involvement.

Procedure for Applying:

Foremost The Americas Scholarship receives a substantial number of applicants, and the selection process is highly difficult. Mid-May 2024 will see the selection of the strongest submissions. If you are selected as a finalist, a representative from the One Young World team will contact you personally.

Criteria for selection:

Although we cannot ensure success for every application, the selection process gives priority to the following:

  • Equitable Representation: Ensuring an inclusive and varied set of participants from around the Americas, especially countries that have had fewer previous attendees.
  • Fresh Perspectives: Providing an opportunity for those who are attending the One Young World Summit for the first time and are not OYW Ambassadors to showcase their talents and ideas.
