Scholarships at the University of New South Wales

Australia’s Global University Award

• Scholarship Value: Maximum $10,000 deduction from tuition fees
• Academic programs available: bachelor’s, master’s, and/or doctoral degrees.

The Global University Award in Australia offers a tuition price remission to exceptional overseas students interested in studying at the University of New South Wales. Students may be awarded a scholarship ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 as a tuition fee exemption in the second semester of their first year of study.

The University of New South Wales scholarship is available to international students enrolled full-time in undergraduate or postgraduate studies at UNSW, excluding PG online and UNSW in Canberra. Applicants must secure admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate (Master’s and/or Ph.D.) course at UNSW.

Qualified students may receive offers of admission in the form of an unconditional undergraduate or postgraduate letter of offer or a conditional undergraduate or postgraduate English package offer (UEEC).

There is no distinct application for the scholarship. UNSW admissions applications evaluate candidates based on their academic performance as demonstrated in their documentation.

2. University of New South Wales Sports Scholarship

• Amount of scholarship: $5,000 annually
• Academic programs available: bachelor’s, master’s, and/or doctoral degrees.

The University of New South Wales provides a scholarship program for students who excel in both athletics and academics. International athletes studying or pursuing higher education in Australia will receive financial aid for tuition while excelling in academics and sports.

Selection criteria include sporting achievements, leadership qualities, good character, and enthusiasm for joining the UNSW sports club and competing in the Australian University Games. In addition to the above selection criteria, the institution will accept a reference letter from a coach, school, or sports club to bolster the applicant’s submission.

Eligible candidates for the University of New South Wales Sports Scholarship may secure funding from other sports scholarship grants. Scholarship payments range from $5,000 to $10,000 for one school year.

Students must be enrolled in or about to start their studies in undergraduate or postgraduate programs at UNSW Sydney. They should participate in a state, national, or equivalent level competition in their sport.

3. UNSW Global Academic Awards

• Scholarship Value: maximum of $10,000 in tuition fee coverage
• Academic Programs: Bachelor’s Degrees

The UNSW Global Academic Award provides financial assistance to international students who did not qualify for direct admission to the university but wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree at UNSW. Students will be granted a tuition fee exemption of up to $10,000 for the second term of their initial year of undergraduate education.

The award is only available to international students who successfully finish a UNSW Global Foundation Studies Program, either in Sydney or off-shore. Applicants must have successfully applied for and been accepted into an undergraduate degree program at UNSW.

For this scholarship program that the University of New South Wales offers, there is no application available. Students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and successfully finish a UNSW Global Foundation Studies program will be highly eligible for the prize.

Requirements for Eligibility

To qualify for an undergraduate degree at UNSW, students must have a Year 12 qualification from either Australia or abroad, an International Baccalaureate (IB) certificate, or a National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) level 3.

Some courses may require students to provide supplementary materials such as personal statements, surveys, work portfolios, auditions, interviews, or assessments. These will be considered together with their admissions rank or ATAR.

Prospective undergraduate students have various options for gaining admission to UNSW. These qualifications encompass high school credentials, alternative entry certifications such as UNSW Foundation Studies, and/or the UNSW Diploma.
