About the company

The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding, Ghana (WANEP-Ghana) is a peacebuilding organization that doesn’t make money (NGO). It is a civil society organization with the goal of preventing, resolving, and transforming violent conflicts through the coordinated efforts of NGOs, local and national government institutions, and people actively working to build peace in Ghana.

This is done to avoid duplicating efforts and get the most out of resources for better responses to conflict situations. The group wants to help Ghanaian communities build a culture of nonviolence, justice, peace, and social reconciliation that will last.

Job Description

WANEP is a sub-regional non-governmental organization in West Africa. Its goal is to help civil society peacebuilding practitioners and organizations in West Africa build ways to work together. It has offices in 15 countries in West Africa. These offices are called National Network Offices.

The Ghana office, which has its National Secretariat in Tamale, is looking for an experienced person to fill the position of a RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY OFFICER for a project called Trust2Peace that is funded by USAID through the University of Maryland. The person who gets the job will live in Tamale and travel often to project districts in northern Ghana.

Key Responsibilities

The project’s research and reporting will be done by the RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY OFFICER on peace and security. S/he will also help with the project’s monitoring, evaluating, and sharing of knowledge, as well as lead the project’s advocacy and public outreach efforts to strengthen values, practices, and initiatives that build trust, unity, and peace in all beneficiary communities.

Management of data for monitoring, evaluating, and learning

  • Work with the project’s consortium leader, members, and consultants to evaluate the project at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end to keep track of its results.
  • Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation staff, the MEL project team for the consortium, and the donor to come up with useful MEL tools and strategies.
  • Help ensure high-quality data and keep it up-to-date.

Learning, reporting, and managing what you know

  • Work with the team to find best practices, lessons learned, and trends, write them down, and share them to improve the project’s implementation and results.
  • Lead the design and creation of tools and resources for managing project knowledge that can be shared with project partners, stakeholders, and other groups.
  • Help the organization build a culture and practices of monitoring, evaluating, and researching in which people work together.
  • Help run project learning review sessions with the project team, partners, and other important people.
  • Help write the project’s quarterly, annual, and technical reports and briefs in a good way.
  • Lead the preparation of presentations about the project for different audiences and stakeholders, depending on what they need.

Advocacy and spreading the word

  • Facilitate advocacy campaigns and the distribution of written community values statements that build trust and unity. These can be done in a variety of ways, such as through social media and the radio.
  • Lead the creation of high-quality content to get community members and the general public involved in practices, values, and projects that build trust and unity.
  • Find and build good working relationships with media houses in the areas where the project will be done.

Financial compliance

  • Work closely with the finance team to make sure that project funds given for research, AMEL, and advocacy activities are used and accounted for on time, correctly, and wisely.
  • Make sure that all of the project’s activities are done in line with WANEP Ghana’s policies on finance and purchasing, as well as any agreed-upon donor requirements.

Skills or Experience Needed

  • Must have at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the Social Sciences, Economics, Statistics, Communications, Mathematics, or any other related field. Having a master’s degree will be a plus.
  • Have at least 5 years of work experience in the fields of development research, project evaluations, advocacy, and development communications after their national service.
  • Have a lot of knowledge and experience with collecting both qualitative and quantitative data, including research design, data analysis, and communicating the results.
  • Show that you have good oral and written communication skills, such as by writing reports and putting together knowledge resources.
  • Know how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet resources very well.
  • Have a lot of experience using specialized software for data analysis and a high level of analytical skills.
