Partnerships Officer at UNICEF

UNICEF works with the Ghanaian government to protect children’s rights and help them succeed. UNICEF’s Accra and Tamale offices aim for strategic program success. Every child should survive, flourish, live in a safe and clean environment, learn, be protected from violence and exploitation, and have an equal chance in life.

The current Country Programme of Cooperation aligns with Government priorities, the UN Sustainable Development Partnership (UNSDP), and Key Results for Children (KRCs) in the West and Central African Region (immunization, nutrition, learning outcomes, ending child marriage and open defecation). UNICEF prioritizes evidence-based advocacy, system strengthening, integrated programming across sectors, disaster preparedness and response, and innovation.

How can you make a difference?

The Partnership Officer assists the Partnership Specialist and senior management in expanding stakeholder collaboration and providing an interface for environmental scanning, knowledge exchange, resource mobilization, and policy impact within the assignment. UNICEF gains awareness and influence to support its objectives.

Key tasks:

Partnerships: 
  • Help UNICEF colleagues identify financial shortages and partnership needs to support program development.
  • Assess Country Programme financing risks.
  • Help authorized partners monitor and analyze existing trends and provide strategy, programmatic entry points, and messaging recommendations.
  • Develop sector-specific Partnerships and Partnership Action Plans to meet programmatic needs and mitigate financing risks.

Public Sector Collaborations: 

  • Manage and create public sector collaborations.
  • Support the development of deep expertise and familiarity with current and future partners, contributing to UNICEF’s database of essential contacts and partnership knowledge.
  • Support the creation of specialized engagement plans to deepen connections with significant public funders and help produce communications products to increase UNICEF’s visibility and impact with existing and prospective partners and key stakeholders.
Private Sector Collaborations: 
  • Identify, create, and finalize financial and non-financial collaborations, including Child Rights and Business Principles, advocacy, and others.
  • Due diligence, pitch development, and negotiation.
  • Then, Attend meetings with prospective partners to secure financial and/or strong non-financial results for the Country Programme.
Innovative financing: 
  • Map Ghana and regional influencers.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of innovative financing mechanisms to diversify the Country office funding portfolio, including public-private partnerships, diaspora funding platforms, venture philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, and others to ensure sustainable program development.

Qualification Required & Experience

To advocate for all your children…

  • Economics, finance, strategy, business administration, communications, development studies, international relations, or any comparable technical discipline requires a university degree.
  • Two years of experience in resource mobilization, innovative finance, relationship development and management, or other relevant fields is necessary.
  • International experience from a development agency, IFI, or nutrition financing authority is preferred.
  • Resource mobilization experience is needed.
  • Experience building and assessing quantitative financial models for decision-making is desired
  • Innovative development finance experience is sought.
  • Emergency and developing country experience are assets.
  • English fluency is necessary. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish are useful UN languages.
