Job Title: Project Engineer
Newmont Mining Corporation is one of the biggest gold producers in the world, and its most important properties are in Nevada, Peru, Australia, Ghana, and Suriname.
The Ahafo Mine is in the Brong-Ahafo region, and the Akyem Mine is in the Eastern region. Both are owned by Newmont’s Africa Operations. Ghana is also putting a lot of effort into near-mine exploration and development in order to replace its gold reserves every year. Newmont Africa also has programs in Ethiopia and Morocco that are just getting started.

Our Akyem and Ahafo mines have put a lot of money into making the communities where they are located more sustainable. These include setting up Development Funds in the areas where we do business in Akyem and Ahafo. Each mine will put US$1 per ounce of gold sold and 1% of its annual net profit before taxes into its own Development Fund.

About This Role:
Be able to provide project engineering and project management services to help with capital development projects, such as planning, engineering, construction, contractor management, safety management, quality assurance, and commissioning?
At this position, you’ll
- Develop and keep up-to-date standardization, guidance, and procedures for Project Engineering and Project Management, including stage gate processes.
- Define and keep track of the best practices for project engineering and project management.
- Services for both project engineering and project management
- Follow the Newmont Capital Effectiveness Stage Gate process to coordinate, plan, and schedule project activities from the scoping stage to the execution stage
- Make criteria for how a project should be designed and make work plans for projects and activities
- Create timelines and budgets, and check the project’s progress against these.
- Make plans for carrying out the project.
- Develop cost estimates and do economic evaluations to support project business cases, such as the preparation of Authorization for Expenditures (AFEs).
- Help with engineering on the ground and construction management.
- Create proposal documents for bidding on engineering and building projects.
- Manage the work of contractors and consultants in engineering and construction.
- Work closely with the Mine Engineering team to make plans for expanding tails dams and other civil projects that need to be coordinated with mine operations.
- Help projects at every stage of their development.
- Help keep the project deliverables being made and the stage gate process getting better.
- Help projects review risk and process hazards and practices that improve value.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:
Formal Qualifications (including Professional Registrations):
- A Bachelor of Science in an engineering field that is relevant.
Experience
- At least 8 years of experience in project engineering and construction management, including experience with both new and existing projects, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
- At least 5 years of experience delivering, running, and managing projects in the mining industry.
- It is best to have experience with mining and processing plant operations, environmental and community relations.
Skills And Abilities
- The person in charge will have professional leadership skills, a high level of intellectual ability, good judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and business sense.
- The role requires that you be able to think strategically and be able to switch between being strategic and being tactical.
