Position: Project Manager
Mars Wrigley funds the 2020–2025 Women for Change (W4C) Project to empower cocoa-growing women and families. Mars’ Cocoa for a Generation strategy is based on the Women’s Empowerment Model, which states that when cocoa-farming households gain access to financial skills and tools, women can engage in entrepreneurship and collective action, and gender equality is increased in cocoa-growing communities, they achieve economic resilience and improved livelihoods, directly contributing to a living income.
The project has been effectively implemented for three years and is now engaging in quality assurance to promote economic empowerment and resilience in cocoa-producing households across over 400 communities.
Overall project success is the Project Manager’s responsibility. He will give technical, financial, and management support to the project team and identify partners, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure project success. S/he must work well with donor representatives, the CARE USA Support Team, and the Program Team Leader for Social, Women, and Economic Justice+ Health Equity and Rights. The CARE representative will attend strategic cocoa meetings. He will help the project team and stakeholders learn. S/He oversees project M&E implementation with the MEAL Specialist.
The Project Manager will report to the Social and Women Economic Justice + Health Equity and Rights Program Team Leader.
Key role responsibilities
- Provide program strategy leadership.
- Design, design, and implement project strategies and work plans that meet Mars program objectives, strategies, and principles, CARE’s purpose and vision, and program quality principles.
- Develop and implement project strategies to promote village savings and loans, financial inclusion and access to formal financial services, entrepreneurship for income growth and diversification, gender-equality interventions at individual, household, and community levels, and a healthy family curriculum.
- Chomoka, a mobile record-keeping app that enhances group management, digital literacy, and digital financial identities, needs strategic help.
- Develop and integrate microenterprise training to help project participants choose income-generating opportunities, design and run profitable firms, and manage them.
- Help the project team build, manage, and monitor effective partnerships with communities, districts, regional, and national stakeholders.
- Make sure that CARE has formalized and managed beneficiary community and local partner partnerships.
- Assess and improve institutional capacity for partners, districts, and regional stakeholders.
- Schedule regular district and regional stakeholder meetings.
- Monitor community activities regularly for quality assurance.
- Manage projects according to CARE Ghana policies.
- Manage program budgets and track financial and material resources using budget management tools and systems.
- Prepare and track annual budgets following project annual plans and other periodic budgets with the Finance Team/Grants Manager’s help.
- Manage consultant and partner contracts using suitable scopes of work and terms of reference.
Essential Skills or Experience
Knowledge
- Knowledge of socioeconomic concerns
- Strategic and conceptual thinking
- Negotiate and collaborate with community and national policymakers.
Experience
- Three to five years of project management experience in financial development, women empowerment, community mobilization, and Village Savings and Loans Associations.
Skills
- Excellent facilitation, capacity development, and participatory approach experience.
- Strong leadership and communication capabilities
- Excellent writing and speaking English
- Multitasking
- Ability to deliver under pressure.
- Ability to write, present, and report
- Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to handle local partnerships.
- Strong M&E system design and implementation skills
Education
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Development Planning, or Social Science
- A project/program management certificate
