Position Title: Lead Consultant
TASKS
The consultant’s jobs will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Make a draft of the assignment’s method, which should explain how to do the job and finish it step by step.
- Hold an initial kickoff meeting with PPRSD and GTI to show them the draft method and get their feedback so that the method can be finalized and the task can start.
- Send GTI and PPRSD the final method to be used.
- Send a draft copy of the reviewed Dossier to GTI and PPRSD so they can make their first notes and suggestions.
- At a validation workshop, show the draft SOP to a group of chosen exporters and key industry players to get their feedback and ideas on how to finish it.
- Create training manuals and help PPRSD quarantine, border, and regional police, exporters, and some out-growers get training.
DELIVERABLES
- A complete plan for looking at the Chili and Mango dossiers. Send in an inception report from the meeting with PPRSD and GTI about agreed dates and signing off on the final methodology.
- The document to make chili and mango to sell in the EU market was looked over and finished.
- The studied dossier will be used to make a training manual and a plan for training PPRSD officials, exporters, and some out-growers.
- Report on the workshop and a list of the at least 60 people who took part in the training program.
- Report on the end of the assignment, including a summary of the jobs done
Required Skills or Experience
- Must have worked in the Horticulture industry and exported goods from Ghana before.
- A PhD, M.Sc., or MPhil in Agribusiness, Agriculture, Entomology, Crop Science, or a related field is needed.
- Must have at least 10 years of experience in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for growing horticultural crops and teaching farmers and agricultural officers in Ghana.
- Must have a deep understanding of the problems and issues that SPS and entomological pests cause for crop exporters in Ghana.
- Must know about Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and how to find and get rid of pests and diseases.
- Experience making training materials and giving training on SPS compliance on farms through simple training courses that focus on people.
- Work experience with projects funded by USAID is preferred.
LOCATION AND REPORTING
Accra, Ghana, is the place where this work takes place. The consultant or company will talk to the Traceability technical specialist and report on the GTI project to the Quality Standards Director. Every week, progress on activities and deliverables will be shared to make sure that deliverables are met as planned.
DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT
All of the tasks for this job, like making training materials and giving training to PPRSD quarantine officers, national and regional crops and extension officers, exporters, farmers, and reporting, are expected to take 35 days. This is likely to happen between July and September of 2023.
