POSITION: Managing Director 

Mission/Main reason for the Job

Deliver shareholder value, including financial and human capital returns, positioning in the market, and adding economic value to the OpCo operations within the social, political, and economic context of the country and within MTN GlobalConnect.

This role will give OpCo FibreCo the direction it needs to be at the top of its industry. Make a strategic plan to move MTN GlobalConnect’s mission and goals forward and to boost the company’s income, profitability, and growth.

Drive MTN GlobalConnect’s goal is to build a reliable terrestrial (overhead and underground) fiber footprint that supports high-speed connections across the country.

Key Deliverables

The MD/Country Head will be responsible for reaching these goals:

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Build a compelling and innovative Opco strategy that strengthens the current customer base and brings in a wider range of new customers. This will help make sure that the business stays profitable in the long run.
  • Use MTN’s size to bring about future business benefits, with the goal of quickly improving business performance in the next two years.
  • Lead the creation of the OpCo strategy with the help of functional leads, making sure it fits with the Group’s overall mission.
  • Watch over how the strategy is put into action by giving the whole company direction, structure, frameworks, models, plans, and roadmaps.
  • Lead regular reviews of the OpCo strategy and road map to make sure they are in line with how the internal and external ecosystems are changing. Make sure the same information gets passed on to the functional leads.

Staff Leadership and Management

  • Build and manage a high-performing team by providing leadership, role clarity, training, and career development.
  • Find, bring in, and manage talent in line with legal requirements
  • Develop a culture of strong collaboration and working well as a team.
  • Make sure there are open lines of communication with staff and use change management when needed.
  • Give a list of the team’s roles, responsibilities, individual goals, and performance goals.
  • Set key performance indicators (KPIs) and give regular feedback on performance through a well-defined and carried-out performance review program.
  • When necessary, manage performance and resources in accordance with HR policy and the law.
  • Take part in the leadership team and help your own team improve.
  • Encourage a “partnership approach” to build good relationships with other working groups and make sure Group governance is followed.

Strategic Meetings

  • Chair the executive committee to align strategic goals and key operational decisions on the board of OpCo FiberCo to ensure board mandates and shareholder objectives are met
  • Lead strategic meetings, make sure the right people are there and guide and contribute to the different discussions.
  • Lead OpCo-wide transformation initiatives, elicit inputs from relevant parties
  • Lead the creation of risk-mitigation and control strategies and their implementation across all functions.
  • Oversee evaluation baseline of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and KPIs
  • Approve new projects and plans in the Opco.
  • Approve plans for bringing about change When needed, SLA, policies, and procedures

Escalations

  • Issues that will have a big effect on time, scope, productivity, costs, or resources should be brought to the attention of the Board/GlobalConnect CEO.
  • Manage and provide solutions to escalations that have multiple processes/functions impact on the critical path of service delivery

Tactical Function

  • Look over all of the projects started in the OpCo.
  • Review and settle on OpCo’s goals, targets, and budgets.
  • Review the most important risks, issues, and dependencies, and keep an eye on what the different functions are doing to deal with them.
  • Manage budgets and make sure rules are followed.
  • When needed, give approval for changes to the strategy.

Managerial and Supervisional Duties

  • Responsible for the morale, performance, and growth of the company’s people.
  • Align the values of the function with the values of the GlobalConnect brand
  • Coach and guide direct reports and run the Executive Committee
  • Make sure there is enough planning and that the plans that are already in place are carried out.
  • Make sure that the different kinds of people who work in the function are handled well.
  • Motivate and manage people to do their best, especially when it comes to delivering results and meeting deadlines.
  • Have the power, presence, and honesty to get respect from coworkers and people outside the company.
  • Give advice and direction to make sure the future is on track and the present is working well.
  • Find and build a management team that is the best in the world.
  • Set goals and objectives for people who work for you, keep track of their progress and keep them motivated.
  • Job Requirements (Education, Experience, and Competencies)

Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s academic degree MBA or Master’s degree is helpful
  • It would be helpful to have a 4-year degree in computer science, engineering, business, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 to 12 years of post-qualification experience in wholesale/infrastructure/B2B Telecommunications sector \sSenior Management track record of 5 years or more; with at least 3 years in relevant sector/ industry as per relevant role
  • As a senior management professional, I have a track record of delivering exceptional business growth and financial results.
  • Proficient in driving the company’s financial performance, business growth and technology/infrastructure expansion
  • Experience working for a global or multinational company and a good grasp of emerging markets.

Knowledge that is useful:

  • Wholesale/infrastructure/B2B Telecommunications Board Management & Corporate Governance with business and finance savvy
  • Sales strategy planning and execution, product strategy and road map, business development, technology and infrastructure deployment, and good customer value management.
