ROLE: Business Development: Dutch Partnership Associate

The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is a non-profit Public International Organization (PIO) that uses innovative research, market system development, and strategic partnerships to spread sustainable agricultural solutions for better soil health, food security, and livelihoods around the world. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFDC) has nearly 50 years of experience designing and carrying out projects that aim to improve agricultural productivity in a sustainable way.

We try to make better fertilizers and production methods, give these better methods to small-scale farmers, and link these farmers to markets where they can make money.

DUTIES:

The Dutch partnership officer will give feedback on individual proposals and the marketing materials for business development that go with them. This will require close cooperation and teamwork between IFDC’s many business development offices and divisions.

  • Coordinating and supporting the management of proposal development teams and acting as the main point of contact with technical writers and other people within IFDC and partner organizations who may be helping with proposal development;
  • Communicate with Dutch donors, the private sector, Dutch embassies, and partner organizations to find and track new business opportunities across IFDC country offices.
  • Help the Dutch Accounts team come up with a plan to build and improve Dutch partnerships.
  • Help Dutch-funded projects with coordination, working with stakeholders, reporting, and other tasks as needed.
  • Providing general support for IFDC’s business development processes, such as keeping the business development tracker up to date;
  • Writing parts of proposals and marketing materials for business development, such as management plans, corporate capability statements, and information about the people who will work on the proposal;

DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

This job requires knowledge of how to develop new business in general, especially in the Dutch development sector, as well as the format and application requirements for proposals to donors and funding agencies and how IFDC works. The person who gets the job will use good judgment to make sure that all of the requirements of the solicitation are met.

RESPONSIBILITY

The person who gets the job will be able to do most of their work on their own, with little supervision. He or she will be highly motivated and able to start working on their own. He or she will show enough people skills to be able to talk to partners, clients, and donors on their own to promote IFDC on the ground. There may be a chance to manage staff who are just starting out or are interns.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Contact is made with technical staff, project leaders, and division directors to convince staff to finish general business development and proposal components on time. The person in charge will be encouraged to talk to people in the international development community as a whole, including USAID employees in Washington, DC, and around the world.

WORK SETTING AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

For this job, you’ll be working in a normal office setting and won’t have to deal with any unusual physical demands or dangerous situations. There may be times when you have to go to places where IFDC has outposts.

Required Experience and Skills You Need

  • Very good written and spoken communication skills; excellent writing and editing skills; experience in communications is a plus;
  • Familiarity with the major trends in the Dutch development sector and experience working with or in Dutch partnerships
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment, be flexible, work alone, handle multiple tasks, and work well under time pressure. A lot of initiative and enthusiasm, as well as the ability to change and adapt.
  • Ability to work well with others to gather contributions from different sources and combine them into a single, coherent document with a short deadline;
  • Strong presentation, writing, and negotiating skills, as well as the ability to put together grant proposals and partnership projects.
  • It’s important to have a sense of initiative, discretion, good judgment, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of software, such as word processing, document publishing, spreadsheets, graphic design, database management, project management, etc.;
  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to international development and at least four years of work experience in that field. It would be good to have knowledge of or experience in a developing country and an interest in Dutch partnerships.
  • The person needs to be able and willing to travel often to other IFDC offices and activities in the region.
